Bestival 2012 Headliners

It is no secret that the words DP are amongst my most hated on the festival boards. At any opportunity they get flung about.

They are a great band but they are overated. I remember just before the tron album got released I was hearing how it would sky rocket them to another level of awesomeness and it would be the best soundtrack album of all time.

Ok it was really good but it was no batman by prince :P

The british record buying public agreed, reached the dizzy hights of 39 in the uk album charts.

I'm not really a fan of Daft Punk either. 'One More Time' is usually the first song I play whenever it's summer but to me they're just French guys twiddling knobs - and I can see that within the first 20 minutes of the club scene in 'Irreversible'. I don't think there's anything special about them; bit like Justice.

Daft Punk are one of the most in demand acts in the world. You can't always judge an act's popularity by record sales or chart positions.

Whenever they are booked for another UK festival, I don't know if it will sell out because of them, but they would definitely shift a lot of tickets.

I mean I like dance music but I don't see the point of playing it 'live' when it sounds almost exactly the same as it does coming through my speakers at home, just louder and with bigger lights. That's my beef with artists that do nothing but stand onstage looking at computer screens...

After watching the chemical brothers at Glasto last year I realised that "Live" dance acts/DJs just don't really cut it for me in terms of a headline act, they're fun and all but they lack the magic of a live band.

I'm not really sure about how popular Daft Punk would be, sure I know lots of people that would want to see them but it's not like they're riding at the peak of their comercial success and for that reason I don't think they'd be as bigger draw as people in these forums think.

Agreed, I was pretty disappointed by the Chems' set at Wireless last year. Too many obvious tracks, not played in a particularly engaging sequence, not enough mental stuff like "Chemical Beats" or "Horse Power". Mind you, I don't think the limited sound levels at Hyde Park could've helped.

With me, band or DJ, my most memorable are pretty much all where the crowd was well up for it and created a great atmosphere. Makes no difference to me if it is a live DJ set or standard spinning discs although you appreciate the effort if DJs do a live one...also nice to see actual bands doing dance sets like Faithless, Soulwax, Basement Jaxx etc

Faithless were awesome at t in the park 2010, probably because the crowd were really up for it.

If I go to bestival I will definitely be going to more dj sets like jamie xx, 2manydjs etc.

Can anyone recommend me any other djs that are going to bestival?

I couldn't get into Chems at Glastonbury at all. I was a bit drunk, but not really, that was probably the reason. The thing with me is, I can't really dance by choice, something has to make me dance (which is not a rare thing) but they just weren't doing it. With live dance music you kinda have to be dancing to enjoy it, so I went to see Wild Beasts.

If anyone needs any proof as to how good Daft Punk are live, buy Alive 2007, and put it on at about 2am at a house party.

Quick question...does Bestival usually sell out? If so how late in the year are tickets usually available and do the organisers give any indication when the tickets are nearly gone? I'm not sure if my mates are coming or not yet and I need to delay buying my ticket for a bit.
