Katster
Manchester to Blackpool, 8th July. One sponsored bike ride to add to my list I really don't think I could ride 100 miles a day for 8 days and I have been working hard at the gym (and swimming) and cycling almost daily for 6 whole weeks now. Mind you I am old. Too ooooooold I do worry if you are doing it alone though. Anything could happen and I think if it did if it were me having a friend with me would be very reassuring. This is not me joining the cynics, I'm just a natural born worrier so take care and don't do it if you aren't ready for it when the time comes!! nightcrawler13
i'm going to buy some protein shake and isotonic sports drink powder, which leads me to two questions.... does anyone have any they recommend over others or are they all pretty much the same? also, this is sightly more important, how the hell do I get white powders through an airport?! Yoghurt on a Stick
I so misread that and thought you were asking how you get white powders that were not legal through an airport. If you are talking about sports drink powder you'll be fine. That said, I was taking some cake mix over to Ireland once (yes, I know but I have a mad Irish mother) and they made me open up the packet, pour it out and then had to pur it back in again into it's now non sealable bag. Mind you this was in hand luggage so might have been different if it was hold luggage. I've taken the other powder through as well. Talk about Scary Mary. nightcrawler13
I cycled 103 miles yesterday, left knee hurts a bit (i've got my seat super high all ready so not really sure why ) but on the whole I feel fine My work has finally signed up to the Cycle2Work scheme, so i can get any bike I like from Halfords (urg) and if they don't have what I want they will try and order it in apparently. Is there any touring / hybrid bike anyone would recommend?
nightcrawler13
I've been told that, out of the bikes Halfords sell, this is the best option for what I'll be doing anyone have an opinion on the situation?
Halcyon
Don't buy hybrid... Why would you want the worse of both worlds... Buy a road bike or a mountain bike and fit the right tyres for your ride... Edited June 14, 2012 by Halcyon
the_hedge
I pourchased the Boardman Hybrid through Halfords and I'm very happy with it. It's essentialy a Road Bike with flat handlebars and disc brakes. You will porbably be better with a road bike. You can get bikes from http://www.leisurelakesbikes.com/ through the bike to work scheme. It still goes through Halfords in the end as they have osme kind of agreement but they have a much better choice. I like the Cube and Specialized bikes that they do. nightcrawler13
Halfords ? LMAO!!! Get yourself down to Evans Cycles or some other proper bike shop. Edited June 14, 2012 by nightcrawler13
abdoujaparov
so... the bike i posted, the Tifosi CK1 Cyclocross Road Bike, the guy in my local bike shop it's good, and my friend said it's good, but if anyone has anything else to input I'd be grateful! nightcrawler13
that's a slightly odd choice, in my opinion. It's a cyclo-cross bike, rather than a straight road bike, and so will be heavier than you need and have cyclo tyres. If you're doing all your cycling on tarmac, I'd buy a road bike...maybe a Specialized who do really good entry level bikes at about the price you're looking at
the_hedge
if you look above, you'll see that I have no choice in the matter, my work won't let any other company deal with it because they have issues with the connection of computer systems (i work in insurance) I've tried to get out of going through Halfords, but there is no way around it (The_Hedge, I called the scheme people today and they said nada to going through leisuralakes, meh, thanks though ) so... the bike i posted, the Tifosi CK1 Cyclocross Road Bike, the guy in my local bike shop it's good, and my friend said it's good, but if anyone has anything else to input I'd be grateful! the_hedge
What bike did you go for in the end? I'm doing the Notts to Skegness bike ride this weekend, which at 82 miles is a stroll compared to what you are attempting. Good Luck !!
