Festivals abroad

I am doing a study into motivation and what make people from the UK travel abroad for festivals for my university dissertation.

Any thoughts and opinions into what motivates people to travel abroad for festivals would be greatly appreciated!! If you have attended a festival abroad please can you tell me about your experiences!

They are cheaper and have stronger line ups thanks to not having dozens of other fests competing with them for acts.

The main thing for me is the price. Other factors include weather, line-up and being able to couple a festival with a holiday all in one trip.

Been to one European festival, which was Lowlands in 2008. A fellow eFester and festival friend went the year before and recommended it. I had fancied doing one abroad for a couple of years, and Lowlands took my fancy.

I combined it with a few days before hand in Amsterdam, which I love anyway.

The flight and ticket cost me the same as it would have to get a TITP ticket/parking, and obviously back then the euro was in a better state so drinks/food were cheaper than most large UK festivals.

Due to the Glastonbury fallow year this year, I decided last year I was going to do another one abroad. After looking at the reviews, previous line ups and photos, I decided on Exit Festival in Serbia.

Obviously the cost of getting there is not cheap, I managed to use some vouchers I get for doing online surveys, so the flight only cost me £60 and the ticket for the 4 day festival was on a Christmas offer (buy 2 get 1 free) so 3 of us got them for £66 each.

We've opted to stay in a hotel there, as camping in the heat didn't appeal to me, plus we have booked it so we get a night in Budapest either side of the festival too. The costs over there are cheap with pints about £1 in Novi Sad (£1.50 in the festival) plus food is relatively cheap too.

Plus who can resist a festival being held in a 300 year old fortress
