Cure recommendations?

I'm no big Cure fan, tho I know a fair amount of their stuff. But I guess that lots of people won't know much about them.

The first thing I'd say is they're not a band to listen to just one track of. Get an album, and play the whole album, in order, like an album is meant to be played.

None of that shuffle crap. None of that "i listened to one song and didn't like it". Listen to albums.

My personal favourite is the album Seventeen Seconds

What's yours?

In terms of progression their albums go from Post-punk era, to Gothy epics, to their poppier sound, then the modern alternative sound.

I wouldn't normally suggest it for a band but I would genuinely say listen to their Greatest Hits album. Work out which kind of era you like best/recognise most... then work your way in that way.

you will recognise at least a few of their tracks... more than the average headliner.

Personally... Kiss Me Kiss Me Kiss Me is their best album. The guitar work on The Kiss is sublime, If Only Tonight We Could Sleep is a dark masterpiece in my view (covered by Deftones for any metal fans... would seek that out.. very good cover). and the obvious classics Just Like Heaven (also covered by Dinosaur Jr... also very good cover).

Disintegration is one of my favourite albums of all time, Pictures Of You is just incredible, there aren't many songs that can even hold a candle to that, the whole album is beautifully done, one of the all time greats. Kiss Me, Kiss Me, Kiss Me is another fantastic album, I bought it when I was 15 and it blew my mind, unlike anything I've ever heard, as time's gone on I've found new things in it and appreciated it more and more, I swear it gets better with every single listen. Everybody has their own favourite Cure records, there's just so much there! Get scouting round those cheap record shops, pick up as many CDs and records as you can and just enjoy digging through their back catalogue, guarantee you wont be disappointed!

As almost everyone has mentioned disintegration, 2000's bloodflowers is a great album. They claim pornography (also a great album, said there darkest, an I'd agree), disintergration and bloodflowers as part of a trilogy. 'Out of this world' is such a lovely song

I'd recommend 'Wish' for anyone who hasn't listened to The Cure before. Its the perfect combo of having the deep emotional songs as well as the happy more accessable stuff, after that listen to Pornography and be amazed that you're listening to the same band.

Now I'm going to sit here and laugh to myself as I called this one about 2 months ago when The Cure first started announcing shows and was quickly passed off for having a crap logic...funny eh.
