Siamesedream22
Does anyone think the pumpkins will be at Reading this year? new album out this year, last played in 2007 (is that to soon?) I don't think they'd headline but could see them possibly subbing the cure? Billy has always said the cure were one of the bands influences from the begining! Would be pretty awesome Seeing The Pumpkins sub the cure
Vieuphoria
I would love to see it happen. But I can't see it happening.
Regular Chris
Can see it they will be around I presume as they got a new album out in the spring and they said at their shows in November that they would be back
gazza_20
If they are, I'd guess it'll be subbing main unfortunately. Can't see Corgan taking a NME headline slot at all, even though that is the size shows they are doing. Can't see them subbing to The Cure at all though, Foo's would be the one I'm thinking if anything. Very many options possible for this year. luckysalt
Surprised if they don't get booked for one festival, thing is their stock has fallen badly, so think it would have to be some negotiation for their slot. I don't even think they're big enough for sub at Reading or Download anymore, when it looks like you have acts like Tenacious D, Machinehead, Kaiser Chiefs etc played 3rd down are Smashing Pumpkins bigger than any of those? Not a chance, haven't had a hit in ages, album sales in the toilet, couldn't sell out a club venue tour. Smashing Pumpkins could headline NME perhaps, but thats it, if they're on main stage, they should be 4th down IMO. If Deftones get that slot why the fuck aren't Pumpkins? After all Deftones are more successful, their last album recieved great reviews and their back on the rise, Pumpkins are a shadow of their former self and its just Billy now left. Hart Attack
I'd be in favour of them playing - possibly headlining second stage opposite Kasabian?
bobbykol
I'd love them to play so much! And not sure Billy would mind headlining NME, it'd be a good clash for Kasabian And if their album rocks, then they could get some exposure necessary to be subbing The Cure imo

Regular Chris
They would be a great NME headliner opposite kasabian similar to Manics, faith no more and Janes addiction. There always seems to be one big oldie Just listening to their new album sounds like thier best stuff since Adore

kaosmark2
Indeed. if Kaiser's can play 3rd down then they can. But would they taken 3rd down on Foo's day or NME header? Could you see Foo's Garbage Smashing Pumpkins Tenacious D

Poppington
I Mentioned in the 2012 line up thread that Billy (I'm sure) said at the Birmingham gig that they would be back in the summer for a festival or two... Be cool if they do.

Regular Chris
I would love The cure Smashing pumpkins Pixies Placebo For me that would be a near perfect top
Vieuphoria
I think we are getting way too carried away here. A top 3 The Cure, The Pumpkins and Pixies is fucking mad. It's too god. Wil never happen. The Cure The Smashing Pumpkins/Pixies The Black Keys Kasabian Florence & The Machine Kaiser Chiefs Foo Fighters Garbage Tenacious D You have a hip and popular NME stage on Friday, and a more alt on Saturday. Sorted. That said I'm just taking it as given that Bloc Party will sub The Cure.
gazza_20
I think people look to much into the whole 'young crowd' thing, look at Reading's sunday last year Muse, Elbow and Interpol are hardly aimed at a young audience as well as bands like pulp and madness playing, I think Reading is quite good at getting the right balance and i think kasabian with someone like florence underneath would work well

Vieuphoria
I would change it to that, if they all played, but I do think that The Black Keys will take 3rd main. What I do think is that there is not a chance of and older less relevant band subbing The Cure, you will need a MASSIVE mainstream, this is a crowd filler R&L band to play there and Bloc Party has there name all over it, not saying it is them but if it is, fits description perfect. Play loads or not, they will bring the masses with them, IMO better than Flo will for that day. Her under Kasabian fits the bill. If the SP don't play, then KC under Bloc Party and The Black Keys under Flo.
gazza_20
Why though? I don't see how it helps them? That's why we always have vastly contrasting main/nme headliners, to split the crowd. You would/should have a higher half NME full of more popular/of the moment stuff while the older the stuff is one Main. then Kasabian day have Flomo under them, with more alternative stuff other stage. That's largely who it is, and kind of should be done.
