I dunno, I think they could do Reading again as a "Smaller" headline act with a strong sub and a couple of other strong headliners. They may not be as current as MCR, Franz Ferdinand, The Darkness and Razorlight were when they gave them a go or have the reunion buzz of Blink. Pulp, Pixies or Rage but they certainly have a legacy in Rock music and to be honest what other headliners are there that haven't already been around the block in the last few years? Reading needs to start thinking outside the box for it's headliners be thay by elevating new bands or giving older acts a shot and packing out the undercard.

There's not so much of a culture for rock music any more, it was the big thing a few years back, now it's swung back to pop, so we're getting newer poppy indie bands moving up the bill. R&L has a new crop of kids it needs to keep happy, that's the target market.

Smashing Pumpkins would be a fantastic headliner, but R&L is for the kiddies who have never even heard of The Smashing Pumpkins these days. No Doubt and Placebo would also be brilliants, but if either of them play then they'd be offset by being sandwiched between two newer acts. Slipknot and Slash? No chance, not that festival anymore. Dizzee and Bloc Party are far too big for the NME, they're likely candidates for sub and headliner respectively.

...sheeeeet, I think maybe the penny just dropped. I think I have been in denial all this time? But you're right. We're looking at a festival which'll be headlined by Dizzee Rascal, Vampire Weekend, Mumford and Sons, The Vaccines, Biffy Clyro, Paramore, Avenged Sevenfold.... and eventually a reunited Pendulum *SHUDDER*.

I guess I'll just have to stick to Glasto and Bestival....(who ironically to my comment had Pendulum headline last year).
