Justiceforcedave
Biffy Clyro could be a small headliner now. Paramore I don't believe have the presence on stage or are there yet to do it, without a very strong sub. Dizzee Rascal is a sub now, The Vaccines wouldn't pull of a headline slot in no way at the moment, Mumford and Sons will sub at least on a new album. Avenged Sevenfold I doubt will ever headline R&L. thetime
Everyone seems to be predicting blur and I just cant see it. Dizzy rascal sub headliner, don't be silly. I can see bon iver headlining next year if they nail latitude fest.
Vieuphoria
Why not Blur? Why not Dizze? Why Bon Iver?
VCK
Really as well to warrant a sub spot they need to have sold out most of the venue's they put on sale. I am going to Cambridge Corn which is 1849 max capacity for the main room and on the venue website after the initial it looks sold out, you could easily select upto 9 tickets for standing. Bon Iver have sold Wembley Arena out and MEN I think for standing, that's a fair chunk of Bloc's whole dates. Thing is with Radiohead etc, they are your huge header, Bloc would only be your small header anyway.

Chinaski_
I agree with thetime. I don't think the notion of Bon Iver headlining is so far-fetched. They're headlining Latitude this summer, have had a Brit Award nomination, Grammy Award wins, top 5 album, massively critically acclaimed - pretty much Arcade Fire mark II. Also, if you look at the venues they're playing: SECC, Wembley Arena, MEN, it's the same venues Biffy Clyro played on their last tour, whom most on here believe will be headlining next year. I'd say in 2014, with a new album out, that they'll headline.
gazza_20
True, but even the smaller headliners like My Chemical Romance, Arcade Fire, etc are still arena-sized bands. Even when Razorlight headlined they still had an arena tour under their belt.
Vieuphoria
There's no foundation of them playing and if they did festivals next year, v would be more there audience Dizzee rascal sub headlining no way, 3rd down perhaps. Bon over us getting more and more popular, pretty much sold out arenas straight away. I went for standing tickets for London arena and Manchester arena an hour after they went on sale and all gone. Kasabian took months to sell out arenas and there headlining and its not like you can say Bon iver isn't readings target audience.
thetime
Fair enough to be honest. Though I don't think Blur are any more a V band than a Reading band. I think they're far more likely to play Reading, they have more of a history with Reading. That's if they do continue, which I can't see why they wouldn't. Justiceforcedave
Do you think that the slow sales for the last couple of years will have any effect on next years choice of headliners/bands?
Chinaski_
Doubt it. They're blaming the slow ticket sales on the recession it seems. That said, they've had the likes of Muse and Foo Fighters the last two years and yet tickets still haven't gone straight away.
thetime
Las for Bon iver... I guess. I just don't see them having the major appeal. It could be an Arcade Fire situation again. But at least with Arcade Fire they knew they'd pull it off at Reading. AF were far bigger in every respect. I think they could text the waters like in 2007 and have them sub-headline. then come back when the next album is released. I just can't see them headlining next year. Vieuphoria
I agree what you mean by there history with reading, the thing though it isn't like the old reading. There audience(older fans) would be at v rather than the audience reading is aimed at. Although it would be the highest bidder who wins no doubt. thetime
I would say they have more of an appeal at the current Reading than Pulp do. and they had a massive crowd.

sjseabass
Just saw Jack White on the telly at Radio 1's Hackney Weekend (until they cut to footage of Jay-Z milling around backstage...) and he looked incredible. Reading headliner next year please. I don't see why not. The songs are there, the stage setup and performance were fantastic. Do it Mr Benn! Chinaski_
He won't accept less than headliner, he turned down IOW as he wanted to headline. He's headlining six festivals this year and his stock will only rise next year, so can't see him subbing. Jack White with Beck as a sub would be fantastic.
Vieuphoria
Beck isn't a sub-headliner anymore. Which is sad because as a natural talent he'll dwarf anyone on the bill. He'd be a perfect NME headliner though. Just watching the Isle Of White coverage now. Biffy Clyro are putting on a headliner worthy performance. They are headliners. It's undeniable really.
