thesecretingredientiscrime
Why not? They're a rock band, Reading is a rock festival..... They'd shift a lot of tickets too.

Chinaski_
Not too soon for HRC, it's been done before. I'm willing to stake a fair bit, not money wise on T's shared headliner being Biffy Clyro.
gazza_20
I agree, that perhaps it's not too soon, but that festival won't survive much longer. They can't keep relying on PJ, Bruce, Neil Young to headline all the time.
Chinaski_
A rock festival for mainly 18 year olds who want to jump about to Dizzee, Biffy, Chase and Status, The Vaccines etc, not stand there wondering who is on stage. That's why they are at a festival where Big Country are, a much older attended fest.

gazza_20
I don't see why that is a problem. The PJ fans would just snap up day tickets anyway, whilst the young uns can watch whatever trendy band is on the NME at the time, if they don't like it. Since when was Reading only available for 18-year-olds anyway?
Chinaski_
Guns N Roses, Radiohead, The Cure, Arcade Fire, Pulp, even, arguably, Muse and Foo Fighters are recent headliners that are aimed at an older market
gazza_20
If there to old for reading, how come the cure are headlining?
thetime
Always seemed a bit short sighted to aim your target audience at such a narrow age group. Once the trends changed of course it was going to give them problems. Hopefully with soni going it will give it back a feel of 5-10 years ago. thetime
That was a big question asked by many. I don't actually know why The Cure are headlining it but I'm 25, not 18 so I'm not your typical R&L goer anymore. But even you know, booking The Cure is much different from Pearl Jam, they are still an indie rock/goth band at a fest which is full of indie kids. Jam are a grunge rock band with a fan base similar to that of Tom Petty, Bruce etc, hence why they get booked at different paces.
thetime
You can't say Foo's are aimed at an older market. Young people go wild for them. Radiohead and Arcade Fire possibly, both are shit mind. Pulp yes - hence the crowd and they were great but people went Beady Eye. Guns are one of the biggest rock and roll bands of all time. I enjoyed them but it'd didn't prove to be a good booking. gazza_20
Tom petty has a similar fan base to pearl jam, now I've heard everything.
gazza_20
Foos formed in 1994, before most Reading goers were even born, so yeah I'd say they're aimed at an older market, but as they're currently mainstream popular, their easily accessible to younger fans as well. Pulp clashed with Crystal Castles, whose crowd wasn't that big. I was waiting outside for them to finish so I could go to the front for Jane's (which was a waste and meant I missed the end of Pulp). Chinaski_
So judging by that, why wouldn't Pearl Jam be booked?

thetime
I know but as you say Foo's are still relevant. If you stayed solely on the young, you'd be booking bands that have only been around for 5 years and there's hardly anything decent enough for headliner or sub in that time. Vieuphoria
Pulp were formed in the 1970's, as were The Cure. I don't get this.
