2013 Lineup

Well I definitely hope it's out sooner rather than later. Matt Helders said this week they want to do an album in the style of R U Mine and Evil Twin, so if they headlined I think it would go down better than a Humbug performance. :) (I love Humbug, for the record)

Yeah I saw them at the Don Valley shows, it was amazing. :)

Yup, I think them both too, but the 3rd headliner is the issue. If not Blur, I can't think of who's relevant and will sell the tickets. But you can stupidly see kaiser's maybe making a return next year as subs due to a 10 year Leeds site thing or something lol.

Metallica - too much touring but they are at a fest that has sold well this year, but I can't see it till the next album release, that's how it usually works with them at R&L.

Anyway like Maiden, I just don't see, you could argue the average of an 17 year old's headliner is Biffy Clyro and Bloc Party but are they going to sell the tickets.

The one band i think would get R&L a sell out quite easily next year with those 2 headers is The White Stripes but jack has recently said he'd love to do it again but Meg isn't bothered at all basically. I looked back at Wireless 2007 lineup the other day and WOW lol

I think people look at the 10 years at the venue too much, the Kaisers won't be a sub next year after being 3rd this year, it makes no sense to book them again.

Yeah Metallica may as well relocate to England for the summer, they're over here so much :L

I cant see The White Stripes at all either sadly, no matter how much I would love it.

The other chap made a good point about the heavy acts disappearing from the lineup since Soni emerged, I'd like to think that them going tits up this year and maybe not returning next would see more harder rock bands booked for R&L 2013.

Going back to what you said about Blur, I said yesterday that im also struggling to think of a big name that could headline, which brought us to the Arctic Monkeys :)

They won't play it next year. Alex Turner did not like it last time and has no intentions of returning by all accounts, I'd say they'll just play V every few years but then they were shite there apparantly. i think you need someone bigger than them too, it might be my view, but I don't see them as the band they used to be. there is no doubting that their 3rd/4th albums are nowhere near touching 1st/2nd. That said, it's hard to find a debut album out there matching Arctics 1st one, from 1st song which is immense, you listen to it all. 2nd i liked but I thought idea's were running out, 3rd they'd run out IMO.

Nah i don't want the Kaiser's back lol but it's a silly thing they'd do, you say that but Bloc Party got booked twice as sub unexpectedly. Thing is with Soni, it shown how download and Soni would end up as Soni had a good year, Download had Prophets and Offspring as headers, and where you compare where they would go on a R&L lineup, that's shocking.

Slipknot I think would be enough as the 3rd, all 3 would bring in many youngsters but it's not going to happen, they'll return at Download, Corey's festival and they'll sell tickets by the load.

The only valid reason for them bot returning next year is that it will only be a 4 year gap since they last played, and repeating that often isn't really what R&L do. They've got so many songs better than I Bet You Look Good On The Dancefloor, so many. Like you said it might just be your view, but in terms of popularity they are just about as big as it gets in this country I think. 4 consecutive No.1 albums, headlines all the major festivals (except IOW , Download and Soni doesn't need explaining :P)

I heard they were great at V too, and they were amazing on their last tour, they seem to have become the complete package now imo.

Personal preference I reckon but I didn't like Humbug except about 1 song and same with the other. I agree with I bet You Look Good but The View From The Afternoon, Mardy bum and When The Sun Goes Down are 3 of their best.

Ah I don't doubt they are big enough to headline, but I don't think that makes them good enough, but that's personal taste.

I'd love them to try and get Biffy Clyro, Bloc Party and Linkin Park to headline, that'd be amazing, but as much as I adore Linkin park, I'm not sure they are the pull needed, and that's very non-biased.

Linkin Park would be good, there was a big convo about them yesterday I think :) but on paper Biffy, Bloc Party and LP doesn't look very strong imo :/ I just think they need a really big band if those two are going to be booked up. To follow on from this years headliners, which are really strong I think, they need something good.

But tbh we're probably most definitely jumping the gun assuming Biffy and Bloc Party, although i think Biffy are the expected headliners, much like Foo's this year, The Strokes in '11 and Blink in '10.

I don't think we are. Safe bets and ticket sellers and loads of R&L big crowd subs as good options too. I agree it would look weak but I'd love it. I struggle to find a big band that would be right, Th3e Cure this year can be done cuz Kasabian and Foo's fit the crowd. I'd love them just to go for it and book Coldplay with them two headliners.

Yeah I think The Stone Roses are possible, and think they will play if they aren't at Glasto. But I do think they'll be at Glasto, haha.

It's quite possible though that something unexpected such as The Smiths becomes possible. Or that they only book one of Biffy Clyro and Bloc Party and could then make do with 2 average sized headliners.

Basically the way im looking at it is (im not saying im right of course) that yes R&L has changed in direction over the years and as most people say these past few years 2011 and 2012 especially they have catered more for the younger generation if you will, but saying that 11 and 12 have been the slowest selling in recent R&L history, therefore i would not rule out headliners such as Metallica, Iron Maiden, Pearl Jam etc as this would please many of the hardcore older generation who were going year after year who may have felt alienated these past few years and therefore will feel more inclined to buy a ticket, at the end of the day R&L is a business and if that business is not selling like it used to then something has to got to give, and if you think of it that way then, they could hopefully book headliners like they used to, something for everyone not just catering the majority for the youth as that cleary isnt working.

Yeah Glasto is a good point. I can't see The Smiths, didn't Morrissey turn down $50m or something ludicrous to reform a few years ago :P? I'd personally love System of a Down, but they seem to have gone quiet again and Serj is releasing a new solo album. Slipknot would be a dream but they'll do Download again before anywhere else I would think.

I hope Bloc Party don't headline, are they really big enough? As far as I remember on there last tours they were doing Academy's?

Linkin Park/Biffy Clyro/The Libertines?

Couldn't think of a third headliner, went for the Libertines as Doherty keeps talking up a reunion.

For me it wouldnt have to be hybrid theory in its entirety even though that would be good, a setlist which comprised of:

Papercut

One Step Closer

Points of Authority

Crawling

Runaway

By Myself

In The End

A Place For my Head

Forgotten

Somewhere I Belong

Lying From You

Faint

Figure.09

Breaking The Habit

Numb

With You

Bleed It out

What I've Done

New Divide

Cure for the Itch Given Up!

Waiting For The End

Iridescent

The Catalyst

Pushing Me Away

That would be a true greatest hits set for me while also playing Hybrid Theory in full

Coldplay would be brilliant. They would get a colossal crowd, especially because of all the school leavers and younger people who make up the majority of the festival goers. They're arguably the biggest band on the planet.

I really think The Stone Roses are in with a shout, especially if this summer goes well. Melvin Benn praised them highly recently, plus they'd be a big booking.
