Lineup 2014

YMAS playing above Avenged Sevenfold would be ridiculous. Unthinkable in my eyes.

Besides, think Avenged Sevenfold will headline Download next year and won't play R&L.

You Me At Six are only getting bigger and bigger, if they were to return to Reading and Leeds I reckon they'd sub, or maybe 3rd.

Also, unless their next album somehow becomes ridiculous in size - ie bigger than Songs For The Deaf which was over 10 years ago - QOTSA won't ever headline. As much as I like them, I don't know where people are getting this notion from that they'll headline, when they didn't at their peak of popularity. They would make a great NME headliner though.

Glastonbury - WTT, Arcade Fire, Take That

IOW - Pendulum, Mumford and Sons, Green Day

Download - Avenged Sevenfold, Foo Fighters, Nine Inch Nails

R&L - Arctic Monkeys, Metallica, QOTSA

When they were meant to be headlining Rock Ness, I thought it was nailed on. I'm less sure now they're not, and I am probably impartial because they're my favourite band at the moment.

But, their next album is already set to be huge with all the names tagged onto it, including the current biggest star in rock music. Quality wise it might not top Rated R or SFTD but I mean, those were while they were still making their name, now their name has been made and are headlining festivals worldwide. It'd be a punt from R+L as they've not headlined in UK yet and I'm not so confident that they'll definitely headline but, what else do we have at the moment?

Oh and NME headliner? Come off it, they're not exactly grappling to get back up to the 'dizzying heights' of SFTD; which may have been the peak of their quality but not their popularity.

I think NME headliner and for Enter Shikari most likely/maybe 3rd main. It'd be surprising if they stayed away for two years. I'd even put a little guess in at All Time Low subbing Shikari on NME.

QOTSA I really doubt are going to headline R&L next year. They are subbing at Download which is a smaller fest, off the back of this new album and people are aware of the album appearances.

I think subs in the equation are The Vaccines, Noel Gallagher, QOTSA, Jack White and The Prodigy. I might have missed one? I think the fest will try most for QOTSA, Jack White and The Prodigy. If Queens aren't, Noel if the new album is out would be the best guess.

Just to pop Bloc Party in, they might as well except a sub spot this year as they won't get higher in the future I doubt, they may have killed it a bit by doing 4 shows in 6 years.

You've basically said what I've been saying, they've made a name for themselves and they're still not big enough to headline.

They've always been linked with big names, I mean, Dave Grohl drummed on one of their albums. As much as I like them, they're one to file alongside The Offspring or Placebo, in that they're always reliable to fill a high slot at Reading and Leeds when needed, but that's it.

And when STFD came out I'd say they were a much more talked about band than they are nowadays.

I wouldn't be opposed to them headlining, but it'd be a pretty absurd choice for headliner.

That's exactly why you said Biffy Clyro weren't headlining Reading and Leeds 2013

The difference between QOTSA and Biffy though, is that Biffy are a lot more popular amongst younger people in the UK. They were already on their way to becoming one of the biggest bands in the country before their latest album, whereas QOTSA have maintained a cult status.

I don't think bloc party will be anywhere near sub this year. They'd be lucky to get third or sub the NME I think. They may even end up being 4th.

Difference is Biffy have been working their way up festival line ups over the years with the release of each album. Where as QOTSA have been stuck in the sub position for years & to push them up to headline status a massive album & tour to follow is needed.

and i'll admit i didn't see it happening and still don't think they maybe should, and that's a reaction of a lot of biffy fans moreso than me probably who see them at sub. But, they have done enough arena dates, QOTSA haven't. Whatever I will say, Biffy were going to get it before Queens ever will. I agree with Vick, heading would be absurd

Bloc Party are one of those bands though that have their consistent followers and will pull a big crowd for the Reading crowd.

I thought the same for Kaiser's, and they got 3rd, and that's with being from Leeds.

If Biffy weren't headlining this year, who would? Would you prefer Mumford or Paramore..

No, but only because I didn't have they for their UK tour at the time. I like both of who you listed, and the latter would make me seriously think about a ticket, not for headline yet though.

Apologies for not quoting all of you. I wasn't quite comparing QOTSA and Biffy, I was moreso suggesting that them subbing Download this year wasn't enough to say they will not be big enough to headline next year. I do anticipate a tour this Autumn/Winter when the new album drops so we'll see. That's the difficulty in trying to predict a festival 17 months in the future I suppose, and I guess the 'cult status' thing plays into why they're being roundly suggested. :P

I'm not sure what that first sentence means, and that second sentence disgusts me

Completely agree with this. It will take a helluva lot for the new QOTSA album to promote them to headline status. But we're 17 months until the festival, the collaborators on the album suggest it could be a big one and if FR took the risk on them, they'd sure as hell give a headline worthy display. We'll be in a much better position to judge when the album is released.

They had a UK tour, I didn't have they money at the time or was sure I wanted to go enough actually when they went on sale. Was only £35 but I'd see them do a great set at Glasto. The people going are much bigger fans than myself.

As for the second bit, we like who we like haha

What does that have to do with Biffy headlining? I meant who else could be headlining, if Biffy hadn't taken that spot. There's nobody else worthy of that slot right now, that hasn't already been pushed up to headline status.

Would they put on a worthy display though? At Leeds 2010 they looked bored & lacklustre. That's coming from a big fan. Josh can be very hit & miss with regards to live performances. (Not that this has anything to do with whether they could headline.)

I guess that comes down to personal opinion. I wasn't there in 2010 so i can't comment on that but performances recently, Josh seems to have been on form. I was mainly referring to the back catalogue they have though which can only improve with the new album.

Well I think R+L is more susceptible to half-arsed performances being the last festival of the Summer before going home for many bands. Think it was their 9th (and final) performance in 11 days, that's what I put it down to because I wasn't greatly impressed. I decided against trying to get a Saturday ticket for Download because I'm expecting their set to be shit, they'll probably struggle to get the crowd going in between Motorhead and Iron Maiden...
