Lineup 2014

It was a bit early for DZ for me and there wasn't much of a crowd, did dive into a mosh pit once so I'm assuming you were in there too. I just thought Macklemores whole set was a farce and if he has to put on a whole load of gimmicks to be interesting he isn't really talented enough to be worthy of a sub spot. It was all just a distraction from his diabolical music. Playing a song twice was beyond irritating.

Talent?

Did anybody see The Pains Of Being Pure At Heart or Twin Shadow? Auntie clearly decided they weren't important enough to broadcast. Can somebody say nice things about them please?

I saw Pains of Being Pure at Heart years ago at ATP. They were really good then.

Just got back. Best Leeds Festival I've been to out of the last 3.

Agree that Arctics were dull and Alex was definitely barnetted but their encore was pretty good.

Highlights were Disclosure, Metronomy, Jungle and The Neighbourhood

Disappointments were The Hives, Arctics and The Kooks.

I thought Arctic Monkeys were really good at Leeds, in fact I would go as far as saying the best and most interesting i've seen them out of 6 times. A much better performance than last year at Glastonbury.

My personal favs were

Royal Blood (even though cut off)

The Hives (despite the crowd being pretty boring and disinterested around me near the front).

QoTSA (though not quite as good as Glastonbury)

Slaves (never heard of them but thought they were really good)

Chvrches (not a band i would usually watch but thought her voice was amazing though surprised by the poor turn out, maybe due to people wanting an hours kip watching Jake Bugg?)

Apparently Macklemore got a small crowd at Reading and my friends left because he just couldn't get the crowd going.

I was obviously nowhere near the arena at that point so can't say how true it is but yeah

your mates were wrong, Macklemore's crowd was the same size as blinks.

The 1975 packed the tent though.

The other thing i noticed was how busy it was on Sunday in comparison to the other days, they must have thought fuck it and sold as many day tickets as possible for the Arctics day at Leeds to make up for the lack of sales on the two other days. The crowd seemed twice as big for AM as it did for Blink or Paramore?

It took me around 15-20 minutes just to get back to the exit at the side of the NME tent because of the congestion in comparison to the couple minutes when watching the other 2 headliners.

Pretty much a perfect festival for me, only downside was camping next to the biggest scumbags in P7 at Reading. Anyone who had the displeasure of walking past them knows what i'm talking about.

They spent all of Thursday slide-tackling anyone who walked past to the floor and by Sunday had covered a limbo bar in their own shit to cover any guys who walked underneath it with. It may sound funny but after hours and hours of it happening it started to become disgusting to watch, at least 3 people literally ran away crying after having it smeared in their face. I know that at least two of them I didn't see leave the campsite once and spent the last night running around purple starting fires and yelling 'I'M MDMA-MAZING'.

fucks sake hahahaha

I was getting really pissed off at how money grabbing the vendors were being this weekend actually. Paying for a cup? An empty fucking cup? £2.20 for a bottle of water? No water taps at the bars? Fucking ridiculous. A festival right at the end of Summer shouldn't have such draconian procedures with just HYDRATION.

I was made to put an empty 2litre bottle in the bin going in as it was too big. Just in case I got myself too fucking hydrated. Morons.

Really enjoyed the weekend, a whole bunch of fucking cretins about though. One in particular during Don Broco lighting and then throwing a flare forward. Unfortunately he ran off before I could give him the kicking he needed.

Friday

La Dispute 5/10 - Never heard them before was just wandering about, seemed decent.

Blood Red Shoes 4/10 - It's fine, just all very samey

Deaf Havana 7/10 - Weird choices in the setlist but good show

Mallory Knox 7/10 - Caught the end, was nice to see a decent crowd gathered.

Jimmy Eat World 8/10 - Good fun as usual

Twin Atlantic 8/10 - Huge crowd, good sing alongs for the 4 songs I managed to catch

Jimmy Eat World 10/10 - Love Futures, this set was fantastic

Paramore 8/10 - Missed the power outage, what I saw was good, Hayley sounded top notch

Queens 9/10 - So loud! Other than Sick, Sick, Sick which is just awful, it was a cracking set

Saturday

Lonely the Brave 8/10 - So chuffed with the crowd they got, was a great set

Marmozets 6/10 - Was fine, think the size of the crowd was mostly due to people getting in early for..

Royal Blood 9/10 - Bloody brilliant, superstars in the making

Lower Than Atlantis 9/10 - Definitely upped their game live

The Hives 7/10 - Same ol' shtick. It's good shtick though.

Don Broco 8/10 - Cretinous LADs everywhere put a bit of a dampener on it. Saw two fights break out in the pits (at the back of the tent, presumably because they're too much of a pussy to go to the front)

We Are Scientists 7/10 - Better live than I remember, big crowd.

Sunday

Tonight Alive 7/10 - Solid, surprised the crowd was as into them as they were

Young Guns 9/10 - Brilliant, probably not the place for two new ones back to back but they both sounded good

Papa Roach 9/10 - Jacoby is a great front man, knew which songs the crowd wouldn't know so did something to get them into it.

Sleeping with Sirens 3/10 - Definitely where they are because of the frontman's perceived attractiveness, nobody much cared.

A Day To Remember 8/10 - Started of shaky, got much better

You Me At Six 8/10 - Josh's usual ropey vocals sounded superb

Blink 182 3/10 - Travis excellent, Mark fine, Tom fucking abysmal

Had a great weekend! Obsoletely loved it :D

Anyway to summarise for me

Blink - I enjoyed it and it was great fun! It still provided a lot of laughs afterwards with some of us quoting the things they said at the camp :P

Qotsa - YUP! Pretty dam good! 2nd best band I saw all weekend and I had such good fun with the crowd. We would open up pits to songs like Fairweather Friends to only do smooth dancing. Song For The Dead was fantastic though!

Paramore - Not going to lie. I really enjoyed this one. It was such good fun and I'm not even a huge Paramore fan. I was only at the front as me and my mate made an agreement that he'd come into the front with him for Qotsa if I went into the front for Paramore. Had such a good time

Arctic Monkeys - Least favourite out of the headliners and not really impressed by the whole thing. The best thing about it was that me and my mate got Pizza and ate it during the performance. Wasn't that impressed at all

Other highlights

The Wonder Years - I can't truly explain how amazing these guys were...It was one of the best sets I have ever seen and defiantly the best band I saw all weekend. Also saw Soupy walking about Tonight Alive so I said hi to him and that was a real treat.

letlive. - These guys know what they're doing. Jason Butler has so much energy! The slower version of Pheromone Cvlt was outstanding and Renegade 86 was insane. It was such a shame that they were cut off but to hear everyone sing bridge of Muther was brilliant.

Enter Shikari - Not everyone on here seemed to have liked it but I really enjoyed it! It was a lot of fun and they're one of my favourite bands and the pits were brutal.

Baby Godzilla - Pretty self explanatory really. Just pure carnage.

A Day To Remember - Liked it for the same reason as Shikari. Was also special as my best mate loves them and couldn't see them in Manchester with me so we went crazy!

Gnarwolves - They somehow pulled off the main stage really well but I still not to see them in a club venue but most people were signing along (only people that weren't were the people that stand at the barriers all day to see one band). Was really fun.

Every Time I Die - It was brutal. I didn't go in the pits as my feet were killing me but it was still great!

Bombay Bicycle Club - This came as a surprise to me. I really loved the first half of their set. I don't know much Bombay but it just wanted to dance and it put a smile upon my face and they seemed to create an atmosphere from nothing for me as I was at the back

Also got to say that We Came As Romans really surprised me! I'm not so keen on their music but they were actually pretty good and I'd go and see them again. Also I thought Gerard Way was boring at Leeds and the worst I saw and two of my mates who saw him agreed and even thought Royal Blood gave a tight performance the crowd where I was dead for some reason. I was in the front and on the other side the crowd was loving it but where I was it seemed as if I was the only person enjoying it so it ruined a bit for me :(

You should have set fire to them

To be fair the Courteeners will have drawn a big crowd and Blink play the festival all the time were as the Arctic Monkeys are the biggest band in the country and they had no real competition. One of my friends said that Nero was empty.

Serves you right for not seeing Red Fang, but by that logic everyone there should have fallen over.

I saw Red Fang on your recommendation last week - they were pretty damn good so thanks! I had nothing on then and when they started playing I was taken aback at first as I'd never listened to them. Thanks for the nod in their direction :)

Mates I camped with stole gazebos all weekend, and decided they wanted a flag so they cut up their mates tent on the saturday night and made one.

Harsh and dickish, but it was pretty funny.

I didn't see any real twattish behaviour though, didn't run into anyone I reckoned would cause real trouble. I'd say the worst I saw was guys praying on girls who were clearly too drunk, just pissed me off abit.

yep and laughing along with it definitely made them want to stop being twats.

No one was really being hurt though, I mean the guy just slept with others for the rest of the weekend. I know anti-social behaviour is a problem at reading. But some 'banter' and messing around does actually add to weekend, I find Reading is the most interesting festival to camp at, especially if you're with nutters. Can't say I didn't find entertainment in the late hours.
