I don't think either Mark or Tom are but I think he is on about Tom as he the main vocalist during All The Small Things

Yeah I thought that immediately afterwards. :P

On the Royal Blood topic, I actually preferred their release to The Wytches' which was this week too wasn't it? Was a bit samey but had some real highlights.

Yeah that was yesterday too. The bloke who served me said lots of people had got on or the other but I was the first guy buying both :P I thought it was decent, nothing standout but a good debut album.

Mates I camped with stole gazebos all weekend, and decided they wanted a flag so they cut up their mates tent on the saturday night and made one.

Harsh and dickish, but it was pretty funny.

I didn't see any real twattish behaviour though, didn't run into anyone I reckoned would cause real trouble. I'd say the worst I saw was guys praying on girls who were clearly too drunk, just pissed me off abit.

Stealing gazebos is pretty twattish.

If they both play, Royal Blood subbing NME, and The 1975 third on main I reckon

I think Royal Blood will do something similar to Alt-J- headline the second stage at both Reading and Latitude

They packed it out this year, and don't really have the amount of material for a headline slot at any stage. I'm saying third down main.

Also I've no idea why The 1975 would return unless they've already been working on a follow up for most of this year.

Yeah it's one of those where if you like their sound it'll do but all the while unspectacular.

Reviewwwwwwwwwww

Tuesday - Thursday SO DAMN BORING ONCE YOU'VE BEEN TO GLASTO AND KNOW WHAT THEY CAN BE. Went and saw How To Train Your Dragon 2 in Reading on my own on Thursday.

Friday

Gerard Way - No set where nobody knows any of the songs I going to be good, no matter who it is. 3/10

Southern - Wandered in as I had time to kill, had no idea who they were until they said, actually decent. Shit name though. 6/10

Crossfaith - had heard good things about them live so checked them out, pretty entertaining. Omen was great. 6.5/10

Slaves - Inspired. Great performers, something amazing about the songs regardless of how basic they seem on paper, good crowd. Quality. 9/10

Drenge - Got there a bit late after Slaves, blown away by the size of their crowd, sound shit. Made my way into the middle, sound still shit but everyone going nuts. Didn't really enjoy it. Still freaking love them though, they were brilliant last year and at Field Day and Glasto this year. 3/10

Fat White Family - OK from what I saw from the back, still not totally sold on them though - actually need to be as debauched as they're supposed to be some time when I see them. 5/10

Eagulls - Only saw a bit of this, works better in person than that terrible Jools performance. Wrong stage for them. 5/10

Jimmy Eat World - Standard. The Middle was good, crowd were pretty into it. 6.5/10

Enter Shikari - Something missing compared to last few times I've seen them (relieved this opinion has been shared by a few others). I have seen them 4 times off the back of the same album so that probably doesn't help. Still pretty good, though. 7/10

Vampire Weekend - Great dancey atmosphere, really tight, lots of hits. Entertaining. 8/10

Paramore - Still Into You and That's What You Get absolutely fantastic, thought I was set for a top, top gig. Ruined by a bizarre setlist (possibly just because of the time lost), the sound being worse post-meltdown and getting totally, uncomfortably wedged in. The Only Exception was lovely, though. 8/10

Queens of the Stone Age - What a bunch of cool bastards. Sound was top notch. Good crowd around me. Great setlist. Little Sister came out of nowhere to be my highlight. Class. 9/10

Saturday

DZ Deathrays - Crowd was sparse, and I don't reallllly know their stuff, so given all of that it was decent. 6.5/10

Pulled Apart By Horses - Get them back on a smaller stage, please. Sparking warfare between the two sides of the crowd was fun, though. 6.5/10

Marmozets (NME) - Got there pretty late so never in the thick of it, but they were spectacular. Blown away by their performance, songs so good it didn't matter I knew barely any of it. Brilliant. Should be waaaaay higher up the lineup next year. 9/10

Royal Blood - Nuts. Comparable to The Vaccines in 2011, and this is earlier in their career. They're gonna be huuuuuge. But obviously you guys know all this already. 9/10

Lower Than Atlantis - Had to take it easy post-RB, but alright from near the back. 6/10

Wolf Alice - Sound wasn't great but did get better as it went on. Great crowd. Blush knocks me for six every time. 7.5/10

Marmozets (Pit) - Was gonna see Foster The People but after their NME show couldn't resist seeing them again, got in the mix this time. Only marked down because novelty factor compared to earlier gig gone. So tight and energetic, great band. 8/10

Die Antwoord - What a crazy bunch of fuckers. WTF/10

CHVRCHES - Not the most thrilling live act, really, really surprised by how small the crowd was. Still excellent though, Tether is a TUUUUUNE, hope they keep playing it once they stop touring TBOWWB. 7.5/10

Bombay Bicycle Club - Absolutely, unequivocally smashed it. Three people from the front. Everything was perfect. They still play What If! So happy. 10/10

Arctic Monkeys / Nero - Wandered over to the second level of speakers at main post-BBC, got bored by Arctics three songs in. Gave up, went to Nero, thought they were great until it got beyond the songs I knew when it just became repetitive dubstep. Decided on balance I was a little less bored at Arctics, but only got back in time to see the fuckload of songs off AM (which I don't like that much) they did towards the end. Anticlimactic all around. 5/10

Sunday

Had to sleep after night shift, sadly missed The Wytches, so starts with

Jungle - Saw the middle chunk of their set. Mildly diverting. 5/10

Baby Godzilla - Carnage. I've never seen anything like that performance. Who the hell has the singer hanging from the scaffolding at the sound desk while the guitarist rides around the pit (which they chucked an amp into) on the shoulders of a guy dressed as Bane. The music was basically unintelligible, but my god, that was a crazy, crazy thing to be a part of. 8.5/10

The Bohicas - Third festival in a row I've seen them because there was nothing else on. OK. 6/10

Eric Lampaert / Carl Donnelly / Simon Amstell - Funny guys. Nice change of pace. 8/10

------------INTERMISSION - SEE BELOW------------

Klaxons - Missed the start, but this was a lot of fun. Think the band were genuinely loving being back. They have so many good songs, such a shame they didn't keep the momentum up after MOTNF because they could've been a top headliner by now. 8.5/10

Macklemore & Ryan Lewis - An absolute travesty. Songs about fucking Nike, playing Can't Hold Us twice. What a farce. From NIN to this in the space of one year. Sort it out, bookers. 0/10

Blink-182 - Pretty shambolic, like last time, and I was wedged in for a lot of it, which sucked. Setlist didn't work too well at a festival IMO. Had its moments. 6.5/10

SPECIAL BONUS NON-BAND RATING FOR THE NEW BARRIERS - Bloody dreadful idea. I guess they thought more breakup of the crowd meant more chance of avoiding shit like Chase and Status going down again, but it actually made the crushing terrible for Paramore and Blink. The barriers were ideal 2011-2013, this is a huge backward step. Not impressed. 0/10

The intermission mentioned above is because I was wandering across the back of the arena after Simon Amstell with a mate when some guys from Radio 1 popped up and asked me how much I loved Blink (I was wearing their 2012 tour t-shirt). Said they were drunk and wayward in 2010 but glorious at their arena gigs, loved them for ages, etc. Me and friend given wristbands and told to go to the entrance of the guest area at half 7, when we would MEET THE BAND BACKSTAGE with about 30 other chosen people. Said a bit of stuff into a mic for R1 about how thrilled we were to get this chance etc, etc. Went in. High fived Mark, shook hands with Travis and Tom, said some garbled crap, all signed my shirt. AMAZING.

Yeah but they were only up against Dry The River so they were always guaranteed to have a massive crowd, in fact that was probably done on purpose. There was also a hell of a lot of people clearly checking them out for the first time. If they played third down on main or headlined NME I doubt their crowd would be a great deal bigger so that's not particularly relevant.

You're right about the new material although if they wanted to play any slot above like 5th/6th down on main they'd need to at least have a new single or two out in order to fill the time. They album is only just over half an hour and they're hardly a band to much around between songs.

They packed out tents at every festival in UK and even a few in Europe though so I don't think it's just down to Dry the River. Plus their set at Glastonbury was 40 mins and they'd only need to do three more tracks, and they could easily do so. If that would be a problem in the end then 4th down would suffice.

They said quite early on in the year that they'd already started writing the second album, so it's plausible they release it before R&L next year. Reckon they'll be there or V anyway

Oh right. I imagine they'll let V have this one and get them back once the album has sunk in or something.

They'll definitely get a big slot at whichever they do, so I'm sure you'd all rather they do V ;)

a couple of singles could add another 4 or 5 tracks, and they can always chuck in a cover if need be too

As if evilfridge met Blink. That's so awesome. Peng geezer.

One of my brothers mates got to meet Paramore and he is a massive fan (cried in 2012 when they came on and the same for 2014) but they don't know how he got it and I don't think it is the Radio 1 thing as this was Leeds but it could have been for all I know

Well, yeah. But as long as the band knows them, it has as good a chance of being excellent than any other gig. How do you think unknown bands gain a reputation and eventually get to record music?

but obviously that has a lot to do with there being little to no expectation and being blown away when you were expecting nothing at all, when obviously people going to see Gerard Way, the former MCR singer, had a lot to expect. a shame that he isn't getting the greatest reviews, although respect to him for not doing what most would and just bashing out a few MCR songs. obviously not a popular choice but a respectable artistic one i guess

But didn't he tease the possibility of some MCR songs during an interview with Kerrang though
