LondonTom
It's because people have the attention of a goldfish yet complain if a band doesn't fuck off. Yet when they spend 2/3 years off and working on album to build up "demand" again the very thought of them even gets remarks of "are they still around?" "the hype's gone!" etc. Bands don't have time in this country to grow to be the super stars, the masses seem to expect year in, year out. Look how people have reacted to Biffy, MCR, Arcade Fire and even some people saying Kasabian weren't big enough recently! Maybe it's the high price of a festival now to , that everyone expects 3 60 quid headline bands on top of everything else! Festivals can't afford to take a punt anymore. Asdaprice
new to headlining though. thought the conversation was about a british band making it to headline status Nah I generally meant a new band to excite the music industry rock wise again, we have loads of potential headliners already, as others have said, in the form of vaccines, Florence, foals etc. just nothing with balls, bar biffy
thesecretingredientiscrime
Could see Bullet doing it if DL give them a push. With regards to making new headliners, I do think every festival has a responsibility to do it, and it only helps them if they do.

That's true and thats why they're going the wrong way. People really need to realise it isn't jus about the headliners, and fests need to cater to that in the lineup as a whole. I certainly don't think foals are big enough to headline a fest like reading or leeds yet, but they do have a point, and reading and leeds is good for that - biffy 100 percent deserve it this year, but getting bands like system and NIN who arguably more "classic" shows that they are thinking about strong undercard too. nme stage, on the other hand.... the wonderwhy
Nah I generally meant a new band to excite the music industry rock wise again, we have loads of potential headliners already, as others have said, in the form of vaccines, Florence, foals etc. just nothing with balls, bar biffy At the risk of sounding like a complete fanboy I think Foals have 'balls'. All three of their albums have been different, a development of their sound, and they're not afraid to mix it up/try out new stuff. I think they're the most exciting prospect of all the potential future headliners we have at the moment.
thetime
I can see where the foals are coming from and there is a desperate need for fresh headliners in my opinion. Saying this its up to the new bands to get themselfs up there rather than the oldies going away.
Andre91
As far as British 'guitar bands' are concerned, the only future headliners I personally see at the moment are The Vaccines, Foals, You Me At Six & Bring Me The Horizon at a push. Muppetmark
I hope foals don't do a bloc party. Would love them to headline one day. Does anyone think Bloc can headline if they turn things around?

sjseabass
Unfortunately newish big British headliners are lacking these days, and it'll only be possible soon due to all these reformations, ie blur, stone roses, sabbath. What I think Britain needs is a new massive general rock band to emerge, ie, a British foo fighters. With the music industry changing it'll be hard to look at album sales to see whether new bands are popular enough to get to headline status, which is why I think just putting out singles has become so popular - but it'll be interesting to see for sure. Also, just it out interest, Indie headliners - arctics, stone roses, blur, kasabian, Mumford and sons Rock - muse, biffy clyro Metal - black sabbath, iron maiden Can anyone think of other British headliners for the reading market other then those who are still around? The Prodigy? Radiohead? The Cure? Do need some new blood though. Guess Two Door Cinema Club are on the way there? Alt-J? Dizzee Rascal? dancelittleliar
Foals and Vaccines could make it, but nobody else jumps out as headliner material. The xx could headline Glastonbury with another album or two, possibly. Otherwise, the headliners making it in the next few years will probably be old blood in a different shape, like Noel Gallagher, Jack White and maybe Last Shadow Puppets kind of thing. Tobieski
I reckon with a couple more solid albums The Maccabees could headline major festivals. As much as you all may hate it Enter Shikari also have the potential to top the bill one day...
Seanoooo
Enter shikari won't headline. ever. Not popular enough, just a fun live band some seem to like seeing. Although im not melvin so who knows. If ymas have another successful album theyll be in the running. dentalplan
I don't know if The Maccabees have the trajectory to become a headline act. They just look the same size as they've been for four years now and seem comfortable with it. Maybe if they headlined a small festival off this album but now, don't see it happening unfortunately.
