I don't know, have you heard the snippets? Qotsa aren't you're radio friendly band like biffy are (bar maybe no one knows), they are really into doing different quirky things and all the snippets so far show that. Yes they have some guests who are in mainstream bands, but it will be still keep that Qotsa sound - all those musicians are either friends of or great musicians that are open to interpretation.

Yes they maybe could headline, but at the moment I very much doubt it

The point is they're (very) popular names which will get people interested in it. Just the mention of Alex Turner has suddenly got a whole bunch more people talking about QOTSA (on twitter at least). Whether that's a good thing or not is up for debate...

I'd guess something much better. I would list everything that's wrong with it, but I have plans for Easter.

But surely once bands started getting announced, and others were looking likely, you had an idea then? There weren't any shock horror surprises on the main stage bar lumineers. Frank turners, NINs, even chase and status cropped up on alot of predictions

Yes, exactly, and that's why this thread was started, because people wanted next year to look forward to and take their mind off the horrificness of this year.

haha fair enough to both the above

Matt - I thought you were arguing that they're likely to headline next time they play. A lot of people will try this album out I have no doubt, but speaking as a QOTSA fan, I really can't see it being better then SFTD.

Secret Ingredient - Fair enough, I think we have already had this discussion, but yeah, makes sense! I really can't believe I'm 1 of few on this forum that thinks its 1 of the better lineups, but I guess thats because I don't rate indie as much as I'm guessing you guys do.

Was Alex Turner previously confirmed to be on the QOTSA album? It says he was previously announced in the press release, but I'm sure he wasn't. Either way, sounds like it's gonna be awesome. :P

Nope, don't think he was... I'm assuming the picture they posted is him as well.

I was yesterday, so yeah it was probably confusing. 'Better' and 'popular' are two different things though ;) (but yes, I doubt it'll be better)

precisely, thats why i worded it carefully haha. although, unless theres a hit or 2 on it, then im not sure about it being more popular then SFTD either.

It'll do well to be better than SFTD, Rated R, or QOTSA - but I have absolutely no doubts that it will shake rock in the same way SFTD did.

Very well put. I don't expect it to matter much how good the album ranks, but it's sure to get a lot of exposure.

Also, for the people concerned about the effect of some of these names on the actual output on the record, I'm thinking it'll be as minimal as the backing vocals Julian Casablancas did on Sick, Sick, Sick - except Lanegan and Oliveri, they'll get a decent amount of time surely. Might be wrong though.

EDIT: Forgot about Dave. Slipped my mind with him being an intermittent member of QOTSA.

I hope Alex gets a slightly more prominent role, and vice-versa with Josh on the Arctics album.

Surely Elton will do a bit more than backing vocals?

And Grohl is drumming the whole thing isn't he?

I don't think Homme's produced the new Arctics album, so I don't think he's likely to have a prominent role in it.

Not the whole thing no.

I'm guessing the Trent reznor and elton tracks will be quite separate, but the rest, as said, could be very small indeed. Maybe a bridge sung by turner or something

I meant in terms of contributing to songs, more than doing backing vocals like on SIAS

I haven't read anything about anyone else drumming?

I think the second one of these is Reznor's track. Got to be.

Or the 4th, 00:15 - 00:23 ... maybe both? Even the last one sounds a bit like he could have had a hand in it... Maybe he's got a prominent role, maybe he's got nothing to do with any of the one's I mentioned :P

What do you reckon to the third one? Sounds a bit like Jake Shears to me

Third one I think is probably the album intro. I reckon Trent and Elton will be the ones with more than a bit of backing. Elton on piano and a bit of singing, Trent doing the engineering or whatever you call the effects on his music.

Sorry everyone for the QOTSA thread.

Whatever's going off where, those snippets sound really good to me, they could pull off a Biffy I reckon, with this world tour they're having, definitely headliner possibilities, and I can't imagine they're likely to play V, T, IOW over R&L, hopefully at least a sub.
