Matt42
Three things i'm just sure of, hunches and all... 1) Queens of the stone age will headline reading next year, they won't sub again! 2) Fleetwood Mac will either headline glastonbury next year or nothing. 3) Rihanna will either play V or nothing. Matt42
I'm sorry but you'd lost me by the end of that first sentence. So are you saying we could get Crystal Castles, Enter Shikari or Frank Turner headlining next year as well? Try and point out where I said that? If they continue the way their going, in a couple of years maybe especially enter shikari, we are simply counting down the years now until they are headliners. Com Truise
NIN at Bestival would be a curve ball to say the least & I hope that's true about Rihanna, doubt she'll stick to it though. I think she might, regardless of whether you think her musics shite or whatever, she works unbelievably hard, the amount of albums she's put out, and shows she puts on, and with such regular media attention, a lot of which has been pretty negative of late, her life must be pretty stressful She'll be heading to the 27 club if she doesn't take a break

Reading always has a bump up headliner, a band that has played the festival countless times before, and regardless of if they are strong enough or big enough, reading gives them a headline set. That sentence makes it sound like you think just playing the festival countless times is enough to warrant a shot at headlining, something all the bands/acts I mentioned have done. Dead throne
If reading get prodigy as a headliner and a good undercard, i will get a day ticket. Ya that would be my best option, as download isn't promising to offer me much next year....:/

I can think of many bands this applys too? Biffy deserve it this year, but I still don't see them as headliners, but I guess when you headline a festival it breaks you as a band! You get seen as a very high profile act. I completely blame the constant bookings of kings of leon for them being a headline act right now. Reading booked them many times, and each time they climbed a little higher because reading thought it was polite, they contributed to their sucess. Then it got to the point where all they could do is headline, whether they are ready/good enough or not. You'l shoot me down for this but idc, I know what i'm talking about. KOL headline because they sold out, wrote a pop song disguised as a 'rock song' that was clearly designed to get maximum radio airtime, and gained a load of stupid screaming teenage girl 'fans' overnight. Yes, I'm biter. RIP KOL.

As you said though, she's wearing herself out MJ style, she needs a rest from it all. Hence my comment, I should have been clearer.

KOL played twice before they headlined, both times as sub, so they definitely weren't a band that were gradually bumped up. Yes there have been bands that have slowly worked their way up (Biffy being a prime example), but there have also been bands that have played a fair bit and will never get any higher now (JEW spring to mind), and bands that were, at the time, seen as headliners because they'd blown up quickly and were very popular, but have since lost that popularity (Franz Ferdinand, The Darkness ect.). So I fail to see where you've got the notion from that it's always a band that has spent years working it's way up the lineup that gets a bump up, because it simply isn't true. Asdaprice
Reading don't always bump up headliners. 2013 and 2012 alone have had all the headliners headline at least 1 major fest in the UK before. So that massive post on the last page was gibberish. I've said this before, but I will again. Reading won't set out to give QOTSA a headline unless they are stuck. They aren't as popular or commercial as Biffy are now, and I am willing to bet my arsecheeks that the new album is prime experimental QOTSA in the vein of their last album. They only really have 1 massive rock song in the form of no one knows. And then the Metallica comment and Reading moving away from metal. Good one. Have you seen System are playing this year? Metallica are one of the most massive rock bands of all time (and yes I say rock because not all of their stuff is even metal), and after a break Reading will lap them up again. They killed it in 2008
Asdaprice
One of the headliners next year will be Blur or Metallica. Why? I have a theory. The big headliners in 2011, Muse headlined after they headlined in 2006. The following year, 2012, the big headliners Foo Fighters returned headlining 2005. Then this year, 2013, will see Green Day headlining after their performance in 2004. Do you see a pattern emerging? Add a number of years to 2011, subtract the same number of years from 2006, and then the big headliner for however many years after 2011 will be headlined by a band who headlined the same amount of years before 2006. So next year, three years on from 2011, will be 2014. Three years before 2006, in 2003, two of the headliners were Blur and Metallica. So this theory, and this pattern, shows that one of them will headline. Well, that and the fact that both will probably be available next year. Funny thing about this is I'd be surprised if Reading didn't get either Blur or Metallica next year ;p Looks like Prodigy for 2015 then as well Edited April 1, 2013 by Asdaprice
Tobieski
Why do people think Pearl Jam will be at Download rather than R+L? Is it just due to the fact that they haven't done download yet?
Asdaprice
Why do people think Pearl Jam will be at Download rather than R+L? Is it just due to the fact that they haven't done download yet? Andy Copping the Download promoter has made it public many times that he wants and tries pretty much every year to get Pearl Jam, so I guess its people thinking its bound to happen 1 day

Although that's probably because, bar Glastonbury, its actually the festival with the open range of possible headliners... You won't be saying that when RDB books QOTSA to headline. Very true. But Bestonbury would be lucky to get just one of the accumulated headliners of the last few pages. Also, your earlier mention of the Pixies, I think they'd fit Bestival like hand in glove if they ever play again. I was gonna offer that suggestion up myself if I wasn't beaten to it. The National might be a good shout too if their new album is a biggie. Hell, they could even do this year, but probably not.
