Lineup 2014

Just listened to Wish and Disintegration whilst sorting college work. When can we have The Cure back?

I think they should get their own stage. Every year they open performing 1 album in full, then have a selection of bands of their choice that they like, then close with another album in full.

I'm thinking more and more that they are nailed on to headline. Purely because Melvin has said they are future headliners, they aren't doing any festivals over here this summer (as of yet) and this new album has got a lot of attention and seems like it has done massively well so far this week.

If it goes how it seems to be heading, with Metallica headlining along with Mumford/Monkeys as an indie headliner, I'd like the 3rd headliner to be something interesting such as Depeche Mode or Pearl Jam, rather than a bumped up band (unless it's QOTSA). And if Mumford were to headline rather than Monkeys that'd be a bump up anyway for the fest, for the people who claim there has to be a bumped up headliner.

Something like this would be good, whilst still being viable, and would sell well, in my opinion.

Depeche Mode

The Prodigy

Arctic Monkeys

Queens of the Stone Age

Metallica

Slipknot

Depeche Mode have said they're touring throughout 2014 I think. But after doing Euro festivals this year they probably won't be back next year, I agree.

Bestival, yeah, thought they were gonna do it this year until RDB ruled it out. Reckon they'll get Daft Punk next year. Could they get Depeche Mode as well? Be incredible if they did. Especially as I think I'll be going next year.

Edit: Also I'm loving Delta Machine. Got it on now, actually.

And yes to that Cure man above.

Because he's a boss.

Genuinely though. He's my favourite artist ever, I go as far to call him my hero, I love his work ethic, his attitude, his music, everything. But I can just never see him up on that stage. He's way more suited to V, Glasto or Bestival, although Kanye headlining would guarantee that £200+ leaving my pocket on announcement day :P

Why do people keep saying Mumford & Sons headlining will be a bump up? They're headlining the biggest & most successful festival in the UK this year, as well as T in the Park. Do people not understand what being bumped up means?

Its in terms of headlining R&L, like Kasabian were the bump-up last year, and Biffy are this year.

The bumped up thing has got all skewed... I personally didnt count Kasabian as a bump up... not as far as I recall anywayz... whereas Biffy feel like a bump up because the decent sized fest they have headlined is Sonisphere and that was the same sort of size as Bestival as far as I'm aware... not exactly same league as Reading in size..

Bump Ups as far as I'm concerned have been:

2012 - No One
2011 - No One really although MCR headlined Download when it was not much bigger than Sonisphere was
2010 - Arcade Fire and arguably Blink 182
2009 - No One
2008 - No One
2007 - Razorlight
2006 - Franz Ferdinand
2005 - No One
2004 - The Darkness
etc.

So it actually happens less than I thought but still fairly regular that we get a bumped up headliner... we get a new headliner most of the time though it seems.

Just because they haven't headlined before doesn't mean they're being 'bumped'. If the Stones or the Who were announced they wouldn't be considered 'bumped' & after this summer neither should Mumford & Sons. Neither were Kasabian who were already an established headline act when they were booked last year.

People just try to make things up to fit into some sort of pattern concerning 'bumped' headliners, when in reality they just book who's available & who they think will shift tickets.

Obviously, that's the case with all 'patterns'.

People just talk about 'bump-up' acts because R&L do have a thing for given bands that haven't headlined the fest before a chance, even Melvin started chatting about it.

I was just writing a more annoyed version of this.

Yeah, patterns fall through all the time but does anyone seriously think FR would book Razorlight, My Chemical Romance or Biffy Clyro over established headliners of worldwide appeal? There is generally a new headliner every year; bump up is often the wrong term but really, who cares? It's obvious what is meant.
