Lineup 2014

A new headliner is not necessarily a band getting a bump up though, that was my point. If a band headlines Glastonbury & T in the Park in the same year then that makes them an established headline act, headlining Reading the year after would not be a bump, but a continuation of their success.

Arcade Fire was a genuine bump, because Reading was the first major festival in the UK to risk it & give them a headline shot.

That's how it works in my eyes anyway.

Yeah I understand that. It's just a term that people use and it's wrong and I try not to use it anymore personally because someone usually comes in with this exact argument that Mumfords or Biffy aren't a bump up or whatever. I am pretty sure it came about more because of the interview where Melvin said all the headliners had played before, so one of them was a bump up within the festival. But everyone knows what is meant, why don't we get on with it?

Also, isn't Latitude a major festival?

Don't get me wrong, I agree with you that it isn't a bump up, I was just talking in terms of what other people believe.

I'd consider Latitude a 'middle' sized festival, like Rockness. Originally I'd have classed Bestival as such as well, although it's clearly a major festival now.

I wouldn't say Bestival is clearly a major fest, it walks between major and niche imo. For every Stevie Wonder that headlines they also have a New Order, for Elton John a Snoop Dog, The Cure a Pendulum etc.

It has a 55,000 capacity & won best major festival at the UK festival awards 2012. I'd say it's fair to class it as a major festival now.

I wouldn't. 55,000 isn't really in the same league as V, T, R&L, Download and Glasto. I wouldn't consider IOW to be a bona fide major festival (although it probably sneaks in on technicalities) so I think Bestival still falls short.

Would make me pretty happy, I'd say arctic monkeys have more chance of headlining than qotsa, bloc party in the tents a great idea, bastille will play V. I agree with you on the stone roses and metallica, your saturday and sunday mainstages are pretty awesome for me, nice line up :) Although I think NATW might be big enough to headline the tent, especially looking at this years nme line up

Yeah yeah yeah, still very envious.

Decided the time has come for me to give Glasto a go even if I can't persuade mates into it. Gonna go for the resale on the offchance (even though I can't really afford it), and will definitely make a proper effort for next year.

Still got to sort out my Bestival plans. Trying to bum the keys to my mates' place on the IOW for the days surrounding it so I don't have to pay premium ferry prices.
