lets be getting some decent smaller bands in. (my opinion only before people rage)

LostAlone

Midgar

Hildamay

InMe/Dave McPherson solo

Ash

Halestorm

Obligatory request for Weezer

otherwise someone like

Manic Street Preachers

Soundgarden

Killswitch Engage

Alter Bridge

then mix it up with some indie

ie

TDCC

*justonthehypewagontypeband*

Bloc Party

then a classic band such as Motorhead

as to who headlines

Aerosmith or some classic band// Arcade Fire (if not elsewhere)// Mumford&Sons

of all listed probably 5 would be there most likely

meh

They headliners at all the major festivals are pretty shit to be honest.

Hopefully next year there will be some better acts around.

Or get worse with the return of muse, florence, paramore and other shite who will no doubt be headlining the major fests.

I quite like the R+L and Download headliners to be honest. In fact this is the first year, in the 14 years I've been attending Leeds, that I actually own every album by all three headliners.

I think the term you're looking for is a "good booking"

I agree that's what he's looking for, but I think most fests do a superb job of getting relevant headliners - even reading this year has got a legend in possibly the most widely known punk rock band of modern era, the biggest rap artist ever, and the biggest up and coming rock headliner who's shows have taken everybody by storm as of late.

Good one, taking of modern era of whatnot out of my post. Of the 90s and 2000s I'd argue they were the most well known, and alot of people would agree. Obviously I don't mean our sex pistols or clash etc

I think the point you're missing is that they're not even a punk band, never mind one of the biggest.

Green day have never been a punk band, even on the independents they weren't really.

However since 2001 they've been a stadium rock band and nothing else.

They're labelled as punk by journalists (and themselves) who have to put a label on fucking everything, pop punk, candy pop punk etc. When really its just pop but closed minded alt music fans wouldn't buy it if they were labelled as a pop band that play loud guitars.

I've just watched 30 Seconds To Mars' set from 2011 and it has made me think that they could headline next year. Their crowd was brilliant, not to mention the size of it. And you can say what you want about his live singing being crap and stuff, but from watching that set it is clear that Jared Leto is a great frontman in terms of talking to the crowd and getting them fired up and just going for it. He just doesn't do what a frontman is there to do; SING THE FREAKIN' SONGS. But yeah, their new album is out soon and if it is as successful as This Is War, I think they will be ready to step up as headliners.

IMO they were bloody awful and i was very bored. Although I agree with his frontman credibilities he can get the crowd going etc and yeah I think they may well be given a bump up.

Yeah maybe that's true to an extent, but they are more punk then say foo fighters who refer to themselves as punk also. But that aside they are a massive massive band, who you wouldn't refuse to headline a rock fest.
