The Courteeners if they keep growing at the pace they're growing at, certainly around Manchester they're huge.

The Vaccines first album has managed to get them a 3rd slot on the Mainstage, another few decent albums and I can't see them not headlining one day.

Don't really see Frank Turner headlining, I do love him though.

I think a lot of people are just assuming that because they like a band it follows that a load of other will eventually like them as well. Lets face it headlining the festival has far more to do with airplay on radio 1 than quality of album releases. I dont listen to much radio so Im not sure who they are pushing these days, I have a feeling the vacccines and you me at six could be good posibilities. Normally if a band has released 3 albums and not had commercial success they probably wont headline, biffy may be an exception. An act like frank turner probably wont ever have more than a decent cult fanbase and if that doesnt move to the mainstream he will never be headlining.

How could they grow when that was pretty much the last UK show on that album tour and they've gone away writing the new album? Not everyone brings out an album every year.

The thread topic isnt what bands could headline now, its 'potential' headliners, so im merely guessing if their next album is bigger than their last they could go on to headline NME or potentially Main - if they followed up with na even bigger album.

Courteeners won't headline, their chance to grow came after Falcon, and whilst i absolutely love album more than St. Jude, not many fans took to it, and the fact they've gone from 5th up on the main (2009) to 3rd on NME and that NME kinda abandoned their 'aim' to make them huge (see Vaccines, Lana Del Rey, where they just have a love in with them), from the new songs i heard over christmas, they aren't great, but i guess i said that about the horrors, so we'll see how they go!

Hopefully White Lies one day, they have potential to do really well but it just depends if there next album has enough mass appeal. It almost a given that Mumford, Florence & Biffy will headline soonish and Bloc Party have done nothing to warrant suddenly headlining but if they disappear for long enough they could get over hyped and come back to undeservedly headline.

I hate this whole "Bloc Party don't deserve to headline" thing. They have just as much right to headline next year, than Arcade Fire did in 2010. They've delivered great performances with massive crowds in big slots before. If Bloc Party don't deserve to headline, then neither do Biffy.

I'm gonna call pulled apart by horses. I just think they have something about them to get them to the top. If not r&l then download or soni. Their latest album is quality and if they produce another 1 or 2 like it they will definately be moving up that bill to near the top. Their live shows are energetic and excellent also.

I think that there was a similar thread last year or the year before. In that I suggested.

Biffy Clyro

Dizzie Rascal

Other possibilities

The cribs (one day)

QOTSA

Florence and the machine

Yeah yeah yeahs

Pendulum

Slipknot (r&l)
