jump
Unlike your quote that Biffy have had higher festival positions at mainstream Festivals, when in fact they had not?!? What questionable points have I made?? When you have to quote your own post taking the piss out of a typo, to deflect from the fact you've not actually made any valid points of your own, its pretty sad! We will have our answer this time next year I suspect, although, as I say, I'd love both to headline Reading next year and strongly suspect both might, in which cases we'd have to call it a draw, although I suspect you'll be there counting the crowd! kev1664
Im not. I fully appreciate their fanbase has spread and grown hugely since Puzzle, I saw them support Bloc Party in 07, so know that they're a whole different prospect these days! All Im saying is that as a whole Bloc Party are more widely known and have a better chance of headlining main stream albums off the back of their next album, although both most certainly have a chance. You may be correct, you may not, opinions!
Benj
I have no doubt if bloc party were still about they'd be in a better position, but te fact is they haven't been, and it was off the back of an underwhelming album IMO. They seemed to be on a bit of a decline, which is maybe why they took the hiatus. Had they released a new album they might have recovered. However there will still be a big demand to see them that's because of the reunion factor. In which time Biffy have been expanding and playing massive shows all over the place, off the back of their most successful albums, they are still growing and there is still massive demand to see them. Bloc party's last album August 2008. 45 months. Biffys last November 2009. 26 months

kev1664
Exactly, a bit of a decline that saw them head off on hiatus having played second on the bill, for the second year running, to a huge, appreciative crowd. As you say the appetite to see them would have only grown since and with a new record, if its any good, I genuinely believe they could get properly huge. It will take the right record though, if they push even further away from the main stream, their appeal will be more niche
kevinboyle82
Maybe it's because I live in Glasgow, but to me Biffy are waaaaay bigger than Bloc. I can't remember Bloc releasing anything for ages. Edit: Looking at Spotify it appears I don't remember anything being released because nothing has Edited March 16, 2012 by kevinboyle82

NiallP10
Id say they'd both be equal, but matt cardle has probably managed to pull Biffy out in front. After that cover Biffy gained attention from the x factor crowd, something which Bloc party havent seen to remotely do.

2rare2die
My V fest point was that it is a completely mainstream festival, with the likes of The Killers, Oasis, Snow Patrol, Rhianna, etc etc playing high up the bill and within this mainstream, Bloc Party are a bigger draw.. Metallica are a huge global band, who sell and make millions, they appeal to a very small section of musical society, I know very few people who aren't actually into that type of music who could even name one of there songs. Koroviev
This thread highlights the absolute capitulation of Indie/Rock music in recent years. All the upcoming bands are pretty bland and will never have the hype around them akin to the likes of Foo Fighters etc. I think it's reasonable to attribute this to the declining of Leeds lineup over the past few years. IIRC the lineup of 2002 and 2005 were pretty amazing and even ones between that were solid; but this came at the time where indie/rock was flavour of the month. The rise of dubstep and over produced pop is going to see Leeds decline in terms of band quality and of course, the actual demographics of the crowd. Festivals are reaching unsustainable levels of saturation with more 'major' festivals now than ever, and with prices increasing (and the price not always reflecting the quality of bands on offer, see 2010) and for these reasons they're becoming less popular as the boom they experienced a few years ago. Things are going to get progressively worse over all fronts until some reasonably large festivals start to go pop, ie. latitude and bestival. I think Arctic Monkeys are probably the last of the big indie/rock bands for quite a while. Edited March 18, 2012 by Koroviev
Martino231
Queens of the Stone Age could definitely headline in the next few years with one more solid album.
