The Best Line Up in Europe? (R/L alternative)

Far more competition in the UK. A lot of these festivals are able to call on the kind of range of bands that Reading could prior to Download, Soni, Bestival and IOW developing. Acts are either spread thin across the festivals or they get repeated at several festivals. Neither is a particularly exciting prospect.

Also I knew Soundgarden were subbing at Rock Am Ring but subbing Linkin Park? That's hard to swallow.

John Giddings (IOW) said that bands are a lot cheaper for other countries, which is why they can get bigger line-ups. I think Jay-z, for example, was something like 1/3 cheaper for those non-UK festivals than he was for IOW.

Rock Werchter consistently have bafflingly good lineups, 2004 they had Muse, Metallica, The Cure and David Bowie lined up (Bowie had to cancel). And really good depth on all stages, they do have a lot of repeat bookings though.

By their lofty standards I think this year is a little bit of an off year for them, Download is probably the best lineup in Europe this year though.

He's right though, those festivals have good depth because they can put 'big' bands lower down because they might not be big in those areas. Billy Talent sub festivals in Germany, does that mean Reading has good depth in comparison? Not to us, no.

There are very good reasons why they are better, if you don't give a shit what they are then I guess the only option is to just go to those festivals instead. They probably work out cheaper, even without the free beer and burger.
