Got back from Essaouira in the stupid hours. Cracking 10 days (I now feel I CAN kitesurf rather than just attempt to). So cheap out there, exchanged £90 when I got there and that lasted me until I left with eating out every day. Tried a goat tajine which was delicious.

Tables are seriously low over there though, and having to buy bottled water was so strange to me.

I stuck to bottled water, didn't notice the table thing or the prices either.. over a 5 day period between marrakech and agadir I think we spent £2200 between 3 of us.. A taxi driver demanded 300 dirhams for what was a 10 minute walk and found the alcohol really expensive 100 dirhams for a 25cl bottle of lager. The only taxi driver we didn't have to battle with said he came from Fez and he claimed they are more honest from that part of the country.

We were told by our local advisor/guide (?) not to drink the tap water. Figured it was probably sensible to follow such advice.

I think every single table encountered was around knee-height, constantly having to lean right over to eat our food.

We really struggled to find alcohol out there, but it wasn't as stupidly expensive as lost found. 40 dirhams for a 330ml can of lager, which is high but not completely outrageous. We'd stocked up in the duty-free at Gatwick though, so still had enough for the time we were out there.

was there for 6 weeks, travelling on a budget but not penny pinching, spent about a grand, maybe 1100 including my accommodation. travelled mostly by bus with the odd train and grand taxi.

most I ever had to pay for a petit taxi was 30 dirham, and that was a rip off but he wouldn't budge.

we are returning to Portugal after I fell in love with the place last year. We went to the very posh Quinta Do'Lago last year, this year we are going a little more modest with Vilamoura - where we visited many times last year anyway. I just love the place.

We also have a week in a very nice chateau near limoges in France for our friends wedding. Its gonna be an expensive year, which we could do without - but hey-ho...

For reasons too long winded to go into, I'll now only be travelling to Ireland, on 4th May, with my girlfriend. The lady with dementia who we were going to take with us can no longer go. I was Ok with the idea of taking this lady with us, but deep down I really wanted it to be just me and my girlfriend. Can't wait to show her where my ancestry lies.

Next week I am off to Gurteeny which is a small (tiny) place in between Portumna and Galway. The house we are staying in provides kayaks and mountain bikes so that's how I will be spending the majority of my holiday, but other than Portumna castle, workhouses and Galway, what else is a must see while there?? Does anybody know the area at all? The house is sat on a huuuuuge lake which I am looking forward to exploring via kayak :)

Are you gardening this year mr yoghurt??

Hello Katster. No I'm not I'm afraid. I went to Glastonbury, I'm going to Nozstock and also to Shambala. Three festivals is enough for me for this summer. I've just bought a campervan so may well do a few more smaller festivals next year in it.

Are you gardening this year, and if so are you working it again?

Off to Skegness Butlins start of September,... Beat that :P

Skeggy Butlins is ace! Spent many a happy break there, New Year was fantastic when the kids were young.

On another note, just back from Portugal, which was once again absolutely awesome.

And I caught this, which was a massive buzz. (We released him/her afterwards - obviously)
