i'd be incredibly underwhelmed if it was Jack White. i love the White Stripes n'all, AND the Ractonteurs AND the Dead Weather, but it wouldn't be any of those bands... it'd just be Jack White, and he could cover as many of his other bands' songs as he wants, but it still wouldn't be the same. i don't think it'll be him though... i can't see him being much of a draw really? further down the bill, a massive draw, but headlining? nah

In the back of my mind I keep thinking oh my what if he's actually got Kate Bush to perform... She never plays live, so the issue obviously isn't money or she could have cashed in long ago, the issue is her feeling comfortable on stage & where better for that than at Bestival? I did read an interview she did last year where she said that whilst she had no current plans to tour any time soon, she would certainly consider playing live again before she retires. Perhaps Rob has done the unthinkable & persuaded her? I'm fairly sure he asks her every year...

Then again, maybe not.

I think Jack White playing solo/White Stripes/Dead weather /Raconteurs songs is as much of a draw as lots of the other acts mentioned. Ruling out people like Daft Punk and Arcade Fire + Groove Armada properly reforming I'd say he's at least comparable (in popularity) with Moby (who I'd also be happy with), Weller, Air, Placebo etc.

Having said that if Bestival were announcing Friday lunch time the logic would make sense but I don't understand the difference (for any band whose tickets go on sale Friday) between a Wednesday and Thursday night announcement? We really have no idea...

i'm not saying he's not comparable with that list of acts you posted - but the fact is that list is pretty underwhelming as well. if one of those acts was the Sunday night headliner - the one that is supposedly the big draw / the one that ends the festival with a bang - then i don't hold out a lot of hope for the Friday one (who is, as much as we all try to deny it, probably Flo and her machine)

New Order are a tiny headliner in my eyes, so at least one of the other two (the Sunday one making more sense) should be massive (not mentioning the fact that they're following a massive band who themselves are getting a 90 minute headliner sized slot)

I have the same thinking as FloorFiller. It'd be incredibly underwhelming, I love his stuff in all his other projects. but I have a thing with people coming out of bands and automatically headlining/playing high, it's lame. Other examples are like Beady Eye, Noel Gallagher, etc. I know he turned down IOW festival because he wasn't headlining (which is ridiculous), and he's probably done the same with all the rest of the festivals. Maybe his ego is too big for Bestival? Or maybe it isn't.

Who turned down IOW festival? Noel gallagher, if so i'll thik you'll find he's subbing.

If you're talking about beady eye, they subbed last year

And if you're talking about jack white, when the big bands were booked i dont think it was even confirmed he was going solo. Plus he's played lower down at plenty of festival with deadweather and the raconteurs, cant see that being a problem. He's also playing a mid-day slot at radio one's big weekend.

Cant understand what you're trying to say and how you would know that

Anyway i'm hoping for PULP, but i'll guess placebo

Just seen that tickets for a Basement Jaxx show go on sale at 5pm this evening? Could that have been the reason for delaying the announcement? Give them a headstart to sell tickets to their own show before announcing? not sure if they have headlined before?

I very much doubt there's any band who would want a delay of just two hours to try to sell one show over another. It's too little time to be safe to achieve the wanted sales.

Agree with Neil - 1 day delay can't be to allow ticket sales for elsewhere. The delay to Friday makes it seem more likely to me that the band/artist want to co-incide the announcement with the announcement of a wider tour, and are hoping to finalise some final dates (or album release dates).

So - my hope would be Leonard C (there was leaked news of him booking somewhere in Ireland), but it would also make sense for a bunch of other bands who aren't in the middle of big tours and/or whoring themselves out around the festivals. Either way, this 1-day delay makes it far less likely to be someone like Florence.

I think that the Basement Jaxx of old would have but I had actually forgotten they even existed until I saw an email advertising a show at the o2 in Leicester. I am fresh out of ideas because every idea that I have had over the last few weeks has quite rightly been discussed and dismissed on this very forum. I suppose the only thing left for me to do is have another day of refreshing forums tomorrow.
