2013/ the future of soni?

Thing is tho big bands can also be new headliners, one of the weakest selling R&L set of headliners was last year with 4 headliners that have all headline big fests before.

There's no point getting in say Linkin Park or Deaf Leppard when an act like Paramore can shift more tixs or an act like Queens Of The Stone Age can led more cool & credibility and then still have change to go after a more solid undercard.

Saying that I think they are best off getting a premium act like Rush/Tool, a cross over appeal tix shifter like Paramore/30 Secs To Mars and something to keep the metal heads happy like System Of A Down/Rammstein.

I love tool, but am realistic about their appeal in the uk. I remember they played the Apollo in Manchester a few years ago (couldn't go as it clashed with Leeds), one of two dates in the uk as they were doing the euro festival circuit, and it didn't sell out. Quality band, but the numbers are not there.

There's a actually quite a few bands that are headliners that had poor selling/can only do small tours like Kasabian, The Cure, Strokes, Slipknot, Guns n Roses, Linkin Park, Ozzy and vice versa acts that can do big shows/tours but can't shift fest tixs like Adam Lambert (with Queen) and Kayne West.

There's also bands like Blink (who just had the biggest selling UK punk tour this year) and Prodigy who people say aren't big enough to be headliners despite being able to sell more tixs than a lot of other headliners.

a friend of mine in the industry has it on good autority that the headliners will be

Friday: Metallica.

Saturday: Metallica.

Sunday: Metallica again.

Obviously I can't tell you anymore about my source but he's never been wrong before.

So Download about to make an announcement later today and they apparently have Rammstein and Maiden whilst Soni haven't even comfirmed they are going head next year. Soni have gonna have to say something soon to avoid what happened this year or they are gonna be fucked again.

Oh so not wrong dude! I would guess is a no go if they havent even announced if its going ahead. Most fests have announced dates/headliners/started ticket sales/something!

nah, I'm not sure that really holds true.

After what happened this year there's little point in Soni announcing a date until they have something more substantial to announce along with it, because it's not like they're going to shift more than ten tickets with just a date announcement.

As long as they (unlike this year) have something suitable to announce then there really shouldn't be any problems for them. The same thing holds true as it always has done for fests, that the right bands will shift the tickets.

Surely Soni aren't going to leave it as late as they did last year?

they wouldn't have wanted to last year, I'm sure. They can only announce when they've got something sorted.

I suspect that in the background stuff has been going on to try and stifle what they want to do. I don't mean any dirty tricks as such, but just about any business would use an opportunity to undermine a competitor to their own advantage.

TBH I can't see Soni getting any headliners to compete with Download's.

Rage, Foos & System don't look likely to be around. Metallica, Guns, Linkin Park, Chili Peppers, Soundgarden, KISS and My Chemical Romance would all be white noise. Green Day, Rush and Prodigy are more likely to play elsewhere or doing their own thing next year. Nickleback & Bon Jovi would result in another Adam Lambert (with Queen). Leaving Blink, AC/DC, Sabbath and Pearl Jam and AC/DC & Pearl Jam seem too big, Sabbath wasn't a big pull as expected at Download and Blink just did a massive tour and have problems with overseas touring.

I don't see what the fuss is about, Download has 2 headliners, who headlined Sonisphere 2 years ago in the same year and if rumours are to be believed, they have Pearl Jam as well, which means they have 2 headliners that split opinion as much as a band like The Prodigy do.

Sonisphere can easily compete with that, especially if it's true that they have AC/DC wrapped up for the tour.
