Actually I was one of the first people who rumoured Queen

but before you knew it was not-Queen, you would have bet against them headlining i'm sure.

It was a very radical choice that Soni made, perhaps a brave choice, perhaps a very foolish choice - whichever it was, it failed dismally.

What's to say that they won't make another - and probably much better - radical choice, and go with the Roses? It's not like they have have unlimited options whatever they're doing, because other festivals will be trying no less hard to secure the best acts in front of Soni as Soni is in front of the others - but those others have more clout.

For all we know, the Roses might be the only decent punter-pulling band that's available to them - they're certainly going to be one of the bigger bands that all the festivals won't be trying to get (because some had them this summer, and some might think their popularity won't endure enough to next year).

What is being touted here is exactly the festival that Ive been looking for.

A festival that would cater for people who went to V and Reading in the 90's and early 2000's there is no festival that do what was on offer then.

They have a huge range of acts that they could whack in there as an indie rock fest that doesn't have the flavour of the month that Reading has or the overload of pop crap V has.

Blur, Pulp, Pixies, Yeah Yeah Yeahs, Vampire Weekend, The Cribs, Ash, Manics, Travis etc.

Acts that Andy won't book for Download like Pixies but Reading don't seem to want to book anymore.

With Stone Roses and Pearl Jam, Pixies could easily be the 3rd headliner with that group that I think would bridge the gap between those acts.

If I recall though you did say it'd be the last Soni Uk...not that it'd be canned this year...plus it possibly wasnt the last anyways /pedantic :P

yup, you've pretty much got what I said. I didn't think that 2012 would be cancelled.

But I really wasn't so far away. What I said in its full context was that I thought that 2012 would go so badly that there wouldn't be a 2013. What I got wrong was that 2012 went even worse than I'd been thinking it would.

The likes of you - and the people behind Soni - obviously thought 180 degrees differently to me. The measuring of the market by those people behind Soni was as dreadful as it could possibly be.

And while I'm not in any way trying to claim that I could do it better - I know that I couldn't - Stuart Galbraith's record in promoting/running festivals is not fantastic (this is said not to slag him off, but just to state the fact). He balls-up Download Scotland, and he balls-up his attempt at making Download a 3 day fest. And now he's balls-up Soni.

I'm not pretending that promoting is an easy game, but perhaps Galbraith is not the person who should be doing what he's doing. There are others who have a better handle on the game.

Aiming at the teenagers of the 90s would be a very smart move. You get a few random bands like Skunk Anansie or Placebo turning up every now and then, but you could drag a few more out of retirement or back into the UK festivals.

You also have the American 90s bands to aim for as well (including Pearl Jam) which would draw a lot of people in (I won't use the grunge word)

I am also surprised at the lack of punk bands playing Download/Sonisphere. How have Rancid never played these festivals?

Maybe, but wider may also be thinner. What you take with one hand you give away with the other and you end end turning people off as well as attracting them. If it's more of the latter than you're laughing, more of the former and you're crying. I've no idea which it would be but there must be a reason why all the festival promotors haven't though of this before and I'm guessing that the market for 90's alt-rock isn't as big or profitable as we'd like to think.

You have such a bleak view on things, even admin and organisers at Download HQ acknowledge how great Stuart is and how important he is in the industry, only you could find a negative and point it out for absolutely no reason at all.

I'm struggling to figure out who you dislike the most Stuart Galbraith or Andy Copping.

How did he balls up turning Download in to a 3 day event? how did he balls up Download Scotland? how did he balls up Sonisphere? all of which he created. He turned the industry on it's head, but you love Michael Eavis and Melvin Benn so much, you fail to see other things.

Good luck with you're Stone Roses guess-work and you're doom mongering wishing and hoping that Sonisphere doesn't return, so that your prediction is right.

3 day event for Download balls up preumably means the Indie day with Feeder headliner

Download Scotland only lasted a year, so thats obvious as a screw up.

Sonisphere balls up is this years fiasco...

He is resposible as promoter: he couldn't put together a line up which would sell!

Seems a little harsh IMO to have a massive go at Stuart, but he has made some massive errors.
