How did he balls up turning it into a 3 day event which came very close to selling out, and Feeder only headlined due to Blink 182 pulling out, he was also testing the water to see if they could tap in to that market.

Download Scotland was designed to compete with Reading and Leeds, by making Download a 2 location event in the UK, the problem was that the lineup was massively smaller and not good value for money, this was the basis for what Sonisphere is now. Balls up, maybe, showing foresight, yes.

Neil said he ballsed up Sonisphere, he hasn't, a bit premature to say that don't you think.

All these idea's were also down to SG, how is it a balls up that Download is now in it's 11th year and going strong, how is it that Sonisphere is Europe's largest touring music festival.

For the errors he has made, he is also one of the biggest and best promoters in the industry, errors are to be expected for someone with as many years that he has clocked up in this business. He is a genius, despite what Neil thinks and only Stuart can come back from a big fall. Eavis, Benn or any of the other big promoters wouldn't know what to do if they left their cuchy positions.

Download Scotland was nothing like Reading and Leeds.

Reading and Leeds share the same line up over the same period. DL Scotland was midweek and contained a LOT fewer acts. I'm pretty sure there wasn't camping either by I may be wrong.

You have such a bleak view on things, even admin and organisers at Download HQ acknowledge how great Stuart is and how important he is in the industry, only you could find a negative and point it out for absolutely no reason at all.

I'm struggling to figure out who you dislike the most Stuart Galbraith or Andy Copping.

I might be too much of a cynic, and I might be a glass-half-empty sort of guy, but there's nothing other than cool-headed analysis of the situation going on from me here.

Just because my opinion is different to yours does not mean that it's driven by dislike.

Please try and grasp the perspective I'm putting on things: Galbraith has been fantastic, starting and putting on events that are waaaaay beyond my own capabilities, and beyond most other people too. But amongst his peers of the big players, his record is not the best.

How did he balls up turning Download in to a 3 day event? how did he balls up Download Scotland? how did he balls up Sonisphere? all of which he created. He turned the industry on it's head, but you love Michael Eavis and Melvin Benn so much, you fail to see other things.

eh? He started a festival, something that many did before him and many have done after him. It's impressive - cos it's more than you or I have done - but it turned nothing on its head.

Good luck with you're Stone Roses guess-work and you're doom mongering wishing and hoping that Sonisphere doesn't return, so that your prediction is right.

You just can't stop emotion clouding your thinking, can you?

I said the roses thing is guesswork, and that I think them playing another place is a bigger possibility. I've hardly staked my life on it.

I very much hope that Soni does return, and is hugely successful. Why would I think anything else? I have a business that depends on the success of events such as Soni.

But nothing of that stops me from taking what I feel is a realistic view. The sort of realistic view that thought Soni would be in trouble if it had not-Queen as a headliner

Why? because it's ridiculous to even think that Stone Roses would headline Sonisphere. Neil is just putting 2 and 2 together and getting 500.

I could be wrong. I might well be wrong. I've not staked my life on it, I wouldn't even stake a fiver on it.

But a year ago the same would have been said about not-Queen as headliner.

why does he think it's doomed if they don't go with his idea, which is basically Phoenix festival

i've said no such thing. I've said it's ultimately doomed if it keeps trying to do what it's been doing.

why does he think he can do a better job than one of the best promoters in the industry,

I've specifically said the exact opposite.

why has he been on Andy copping and Start Galbraith's back's for ages now, perhaps because he got a bollocking from them.

PMSL.

FFS.

I know it wasn't like Reading and Leeds, it was designed to be like them though, that year was a test, if it worked out, it would have been made a lot bigger and had both Glasgow and Donington running alongside each other, similarly to R/L.

This looks like the line-up the Levellers look at when programming Beautiful Days!

Half Man Half Biscuit don't do festivals - more's the pity.

Friday looks the best day personally, I don't have a flannel shirt. Where's the token Goff act? Can't we have Fields Of The Nephilim, or The Mission in The Sisters slot?

Anyway, it always interesting to see that Neil speculating of an andie direction (and saying it pure guesswork combined with common sense) has invigorated this forum more than the anything even remotely official.

Not that France being confirmed and lady knebworth saying it's going ahead isn't compelling. :D
