I dunno, they took this year off touring, and I'm sure they said somewhere - possibly Kerrang! - they planned on doing some Summer Euro dates next year after taking this year off...but I may be imagining that...can't stand 'em anyways, so I'd prefer they didn't, however they're the most likely new headliner to get bumped up other than Paramore, but I'd imagine A7X would get less flakk, plus they could angle it as returning to the last place they played live with the Rev and all that jazz.

Someone asked on facebook for band clues, and Soni said "What rhymes with Orange Turtle ?"

I imagine it's just them messing about, but if it's a real clue, that'd surely mean Deep Purple, not so sure they'd headline these days though?

Edit: Someone on the official forums also spotted the Deep Purple official pages most recent update, bar one from yesterday was on wednesday, and was a picture of Ritchie/Deep Purple at Knebworth from 1985...

Aye, I'd imagine they would do. They still do play arenas I think, and it's their first fest in a long time I guess. Still I could only see it working with them as a headliner if they went back to 2010 style. Drop the price a wee bit to about £180 max inc EE fees etc.. and have Friday as a Saturn half day, worked for when they had Alice Cooper headline, then bill Saturday and Sunday as full days. Obviously if the other 2 headliners aren't completely up to scratch, might be a big risk.

I should say upfront, am a big fan of download, and the amount of care Andy Copping & John Probyn give that festival but got bored with the 'just music' approach. We loved sonisphere cos of all the other stuff going on. We booked ticket this year and were some of the people getting money back. Also, I've been involved in one of the fan forums for download.

The biggest problem sonisphere has got is arrogance. They arrived on the scene, hurled abuse over the fence at download, were quite out of order in some of the things they said, quite aggressive in their marketing, but also quite clever. They set their stall out and made it quite clear - they were here to shut download the hell down.

For those of us who know this, and have experienced the utter ********* that is the sonisphere forum moderators, frankly we're laughing our assess off at sonisphere failing, consider it karmic payback, think the fanboys needed the peg hopefully they've been taken down by, and still hope sonisphere comes back. Why? Cos competition is good, choice is good, taking chances on random bookings is good, alternate stages is genius, and the atmosphere was much much much more shinier than downloads.

Pride comes before a fall. Helpfully sonisphere have learned some lessons the hard way.

Please tell me this is some kind of unfunny wind-up.

You seem to have been writing about Download, but wrote Sonisphere by accident.

If I'm wrong, please explain what these out of order abusive comments were by the Sonisphere team, also what have the Sonisphere moderators done wrong?

I agree with you Biffoire about hyping up non events. Hype only works for a short period of time, saying there's an announcement in a fortnight is fine, as long as it's followed through, if 2 months later, nothing has been announced and they are still hyping up the announcement, then it's taking the mick.

To be fair, there has been a lot of criticism on there in the last 18 months or so. There's a thread on there now, where people have been going on big rants about things. Obviously there are still people who don't want to hear anything negative.

I get called a fan-boy all the time, but it's not true, I have deep concerns and will express these if I feel it is right, as I did after 2011's event in which I thought it was the worst of the 3 and felt they got it wrong. I have also called out against the delay in any information lately, saying why can't they put up a splash page to at least acknowledge that the event is taking place, the splash page went up the following day, so they are actually listening, even f they don't show it.

Give it another try and you will see how different it is, I think the forums are the best they've been in a long time, they just need more people posting to get a livelier atmosphere going.
