I've got stuck at nothing. My words were 100% perfectly placed.

And here's the proof......

Care to show me where an allowance for VAT has been included within that?

I was simply pointing out that the first thing to be deducted from that stated "income" is VAT at 20%.

gary then claimed that the vat paid on expenses would equal what was collected. I stated that was wrong, because it is.

You missed the posts afterward where we start talking about profit margins, not the amount collected. My whole arguement is around VAT not being part of profit. I've offered the olive branch that we were talking crossed purposes, but you still seem to disagree. Never said they would equal out - notice that hasn't been quoted - just that it's not relevant for a profit margin.

Thanks - I accept your apology that you were talking at crossed purposes.

I never was.

:)

EDIT: cos you seem to have missed what you posted the first time I quoted it, here it is again.....

But if they're VAT registered, then they claim that back

I take it none of your businesses rely on you being customer facing either?

Incorrect. :)

But unlike most people I never lick arse to extract money from someone. I'll always tell an idiot that they're an idiot.

There's more to life than sucking up to morons to get rich. I've been there and done that, and there's only so many years of pretending that morons are smart that I wanted to do.

I leave the desperation to others. :)

Well seeing as you're a fan of straight talking you won't mind me telling you that on this thread you've come across as a poorly informed yet arrogant prick. Nothing like setting yourself up for a fall.

 PMSL - it's not me that's been talking at crossed purposes, and not a jot of what I've posted in this thread has been poorly informed or even the tiniest bit wrong.

I raised the vat issue in the relevant place. I continued to talk about it with the deserved relevance for the point where it came into play. It wasn't me that was wrongly saying it could be ignored because all that was collected was paid out again, but the person who you said I should listen to.

So I suggest you should speak your own words to yourself, not someone who has successfully managed all tax issues without need of any accountant for 15 years.

(I do use an accountant [not for vat tho] - but not because I need one. If you're as smart as you like to think of yourself then I don't need to explain the reason for my choice there).

Actually Neil, reviewing the thread, your VAT comment was quoting the profit references, not the sales takings post. So looks like you've either quoted the wrong post, causing a subsequent debate over a mistake you won't admit to. Or you actually are the ill-informed arrogant prick, who won't admit they don't know the difference between profit and cash. :)

yep, I didn't quote and post back on the most relevant post I could have, but the most recent part of the conversation at the point I posted - where it was a reasonable assumption for me to make that the conversation was happening on what had been said to that point.

And what had been said to that point was an income figure which did not account for the fact of VAT - a large enough chunk of money to HUGELY skew anything further that was said about the profit the fest may or may not be making.

Or you actually are the ill-informed arrogant prick, who won't admit they don't know the difference between profit and cash. :)

Just arrogant enough to know it's neither of those things until the vat is factored out of the calculations. :)

And unlike you, I've not had to do pointless courses to realise it. :P
