I find it curious what directions AC considers to diversify the festival, when he'll consider hip-hop and dance acts, but then says bands like the black keys too indie, this was before their latest , more commercial album, which is still great imo. Just seems an odd direction to diversify

Interesting. I think the festival has to diversify to continue. There are only so many metal acts to go round and let's face it we have seen them all many times. As long as Metal stays at the core of the festival thent there should always be room for Dance/Indie band imo.

i'd guess that Download won't be allowed to go too far in the dance/indie direction, just as Reading is no longer allowed to go too far in the rock direction since Download started.

It stayed heavy for a good number of years after download. It wasnt until soni started, thats when the heavier music became less prominent. Makes me curious about next years line-up if soni doesnt go ahead.

it might have had some heavier acts on the bill, but the number of them it was having was reduced right from the start of Download.

Well that's a load of crap really isn't it, having just looked at every lineup poster, they are no different down the years except maybe 1 or 2.

It has nothing to do with Download, as to whether Reading has light or heavy acts.

eh? It's much more pop oriented right across the bill than it used to be.

i reckon you could have hip hop / rap sub .. but not headline just yet ... wu tang clan etc would go down better than jay z i believe

and to be fair prodigy have more in common with heavy rock and metal acts than most in the genre

i also reckon bands like Daft Punk, justice would go down ok

because metallers aren't actually as welcoming and open minded as they like to believe they are, instead believing that it's only others who have those afflictions? ;)

:girlmad: Ehhhhhhhh! Please tell me I'm reading this wrong! Are you actually accusing us people who prefer not to waste our time listening to rap, etc. racists?????? Now I have heard it all!!!!! What has prefering music got to do with anything at all apart from good or bad taste?

Your wish is my command. You're reading it wrong.

And, for the record, stuff like the Prodigy has always had more of a cross-over appeal.

not in 1992 it didn't.

I think you may have misconstrued that a little he was accusing metallers of being closed minded not rascists.

The mention of rascism was in reference to when Lethal Bizzle performed there a few years back and suffered some disgusting abuse.

Pretty much, yup.

I wasn't so much calling metallers closed minded, but merely pointing out that they have the same attitudes tho in opposite directions of the others who they can often be quick to condemn.
