What's your favourite band name?

I was just thinking about the best band name I've enjoyed hearing about which was Gaye Bykers On Acid. I've never heard them so thought I'd look them up. On Wickipedia it says that they also played gigs (dressed in women's clothing) under the name 'Lesbian Dopeheads on Mopeds', supporting themselves, and thus getting paid twice.Quite clever.

Anyway, this is a roundabout way of asking what is your favourite band name? And perhaps why?

I quite liked the band name 'Ou Est Le Swimming Pool' as well.

I'm not a fan of long names. Short ones are often a bit ridiculous (Smashing Pumpkins anyone?) but I think it's better than long ones that people inevitably get bored of saying and start abbreviating.

Not really sure what my favourite names are. I struggle to think of them distinctly from the bands themselves.

Great psychedelic album was "Hapshash and the Coloured Coat Featuring the Heavy Metal Kids and a Cast of Thousands". Really H & TCC were album cover designers but they also produced a couple of albums.

I remember when bands mainly used to be Somebody and The Somethings, then they became just The *** (eg The Beatles), and finally just one word - eg, Queen.

Cream was possibly one of the cleverest - very immodest but it said it all at the time.

I quite like Super Furry Animals - fun name and not a bad band.

I like that shorter names. The long names are just annoying and only get abbreviated in the end anyway.

One of my favourite band names is Metallica. What a great name. Has such weight to it.

As is AC/DC, Motorhead, Madness, The Clash, Sex Pistols, Spiritualized, Motley Crue, Public Enemy, Queen, Guns and Roses ...

Simple, yet completely fitting to the band.

I really really like "----- and the -----'s" type names. They're awful, but I really enjoy them. It took me ages to work out the pun of Joe Lean, and then really enjoyed the layers the whole name "Joe Lean And The Jing Jang Jong" has. It shows how easily amused I am, and it's a shit name, as I said most of that type are, but they're my favourite.

Nine Inch Nails.

Thought of all the bands I can, keep coming back to that one. Guns n Roses comes in second I think. Nirvana was a good name too.

Worst = Razorlight. Oh haha, it's funny because it sounds like 'Rays o light' but it is not! How fucking clever. Only paedophiles approve of this name.

I had a freind who named his band 'Plus Support'

"ooh, how funny it'll be when we have our headline gigs.. it'll be Plus Support plus support... "

only problem was, for all their first gigs when they were supporting, no-one knew what they were called.. it just looked like a last minute addition. It ended in tears

Milky Wimpshake. Whatever happened to them?

And I've always liked band names that work as initials, e.g. PWEI, KMFDM, KLF. Actually, have to say Pop Will Eat Itself is a damn fine band name, and gave rise to a truly great photo caption in NME once that would be a great name for a tribute band - Pop Will Shit Itself.

I'd forgotten one of the original garage bands ? and The Mysterians.

Real problem looking the band up or filing it when the name begins with ? unless you file under Q for Question Mark. Easier to search for their classic 96 Tears.
