Help For the Festival Newbie

So a lot of my friends who have never been to a festival always ask me one hundred questions about what to take etc, so thought a wee thread full of dos and don'ts would help pass the time until Rockness...

Handy stuff to take...

  • Black bags - handy for not only keeping your patch tidy but also keeping your stuff dry if it rains!

  • Duct tape - a one stop shop for fixing all yer gear: temporary strap on your bag, patched hole on your tent etc

  • A cheap mobile phone. Smart phones battery die in no time, my £15 Vodafone own brand lasts 7 days!

Useless stuff...

  • Trolleys/suitcases etc with small wheels! They are no good in rough terrain, especially when wet and muddy.

  • Padlocks on tents. If somebody wants in your tent, chances are they will slice through it. A padlock also advertises your valuables!

  • Bottles of water. There is drinking water there, just take an empty bottle to save carrying all that weight.

People always forget...

  • Something to keep you warm. Just because it's going to be 25'C doesn't mean night time will be warm, it will be freezing!

  • The walk can be long to a campsite so if your carrying anything in your hands be sure you can manage it! Also why rubbish trolleys/suitcases are no good!

  • You may want to see 10 acts a day but the chances you will be able to a slim...clashes, large crowds, friends etc all help to prevent this. Not impossible mind you!

...anything else people?
