Olympic Torch @Rockness, WTF?!

Yesterday, I received my 7 day update email. My excitement soon soured when I read the part about the Olympic torch coming to the festival?!

All over the UK families have been devastated by massive job losses, cuts to services, pensions and welfare cuts, all to fund the £24Bn Olympic charade. Personally, I've got lots of friends and family stung by these cuts that have been made to fund LONDON Olympics and LONDON Jubilee. Is Rockness sure it really wants to buy into this?

My only interest in watching the Olympic torch on the main stage will be to see the volley of eggs or abuse that will no doubt occur. This has already been hinted at in other places online in the last 24 hours. The only excitement there is around these games is the illusionary faux-excitement generated by the BBC and LOCOG propaganda machines.

Both BBC and LOCOG will no doubt try to infer that Rockness was set up purely for the torch relay, and that the crowds only attended for this singular reason. They already removed all Cornish and Welsh flags on the route while at the same time painted over bilingual road signs that had a chance of being seen on TV. Not to mention the fact they tried to have every Saltire Cross (Scotland’s flag) removed from the route in Scotland, and the one above our national stadium of Hampden.

I certainly will not be celebrating an event that was funded by literally taking food from the mouths of children - I am gutted Rockness has decided otherwise!

So far, I've been to every Rockness bar the first one. Loved every minute of it! This, however, has tarnished all of that.

I wont be going to see it at RockNess that is for sure, but sadly my mother will be carrying the fucking flame in Aberdeen for all her charity/fundraising activities, which is fair enough but she is forcing me to go watch her on the Monday of RockNess so I will be fucked. I am going to take a Saltire and if anyone trys to remove it from me they can fuck off

Charity fundraisers like your mum deserve a pat on the back. But any cash she could possibly have a hoped to raise pales in comparison to the £24Bn of cuts to fund this Olympic shite.

I think there may well be a wee bit more than just Saltire's waved at this Rockness torch pish....

aye I don't think it is a good idea at all. It could just cause trouble as after the hassle of them showing the England v USA game few years back OR no one will even turn up for a look and for RockNess's sake I hope its the latter. either or would give RockNess bad publicity as I cant imagine there being a huge happy welcoming

I think no one will even give a shite about it to be fair

I think you're both just small-minded and petty. Anyone that gets offended by this needs to have a good hard look at themselves and anyone causing trouble should be locked up.

"Both BBC and LOCOG will no doubt try to infer that Rockness was set up purely for the torch relay, and that the crowds only attended for this singular reason.".

That's just utter nonsense. Stealing food from childrens' mouths? Stop being such a drama queen.

It's a once in a lifetime event, I'll happily go along and see it. Maybe you shouldn't go at all if you feel that strongly.

Westminster made billions of pounds of cuts to child benefits, disabled benefit, welfare, pensions and services etc - fact. Westminster spent £24Bn on LONDON Olympics - fact. Do the maths, not rocket science.

The cost of the Olympics is an obscenity considering it’s just a conceit i.e. a chance for a regime to display its colours, nothing more. NO country has ever seen an economic return or legacy from the games. But every country uses these arguments as an excuse for the amount spent before the event. When was the last time you thought “oh, think I’ll go to Seoul because they had the Olympics”? London is the only part of the UK that will see any benefit, and this will be very short term. Think about it…

So, Jagerman & MobRoolz – Billions cut from Child Benefit, Welfare etc , then £24Bn from the same public purse spent on this Olympic shite = food from a child’s mouth.

MobRoolz – LOCOG and the UK Gov tried to have all the national flags (Cornwall, Wales, Scotland) removed from the route and national stadiums, while the BBC painted over all in-shot bilingual signs (Cornish/English, Welsh/English) while filming the torch relay. Not forgetting to add the fact that the UK has seen its highest debt related suicides ever recorded. If none of this means anything to you, then either you coast through life with your eyes wide shut, or you just couldn’t give two fucks about shit happening to the folks around you. Neither of which is a good situation to be in.

Kowalski – FFS man, you are such a troll. If you have an opinion then give it. Copy/pasting another poster without any addendum just makes you look like a prize twat, with the IQ of a glass of tap water.

My arguments are very well backed up, balanced and shared by the majority of folks I hear speak about the subject. You’ve every right to disagree, but at least offer some backing to your criticism. Oh, and MobRoolz - first, you have to understand what ‘small minded’ is before you can accuse anybody of this. I think the depth of my argument and the clarity in which it is delivered, demonstrates that I’m far from small minded. You, on the other hand, have proved yourself less than the seasoned debater. People in glass house… and all that jazz.

No matter which way you lean, the issue of the Olympics is a highly charged political issue. Having the torch hand-over at Rockness is akin to the promoter of Rockness saying ‘fuck yea’ and ‘fuck you’ at the same time. Effectively, they’ve taken a political stance; one which backs cuts, austerity and all the rest of the negative shite Westminster imposes on us all. If you want to see the travesty of the torch relay, then this should be done via civic means (council events) – not at a privately run music festival. I didn’t buy into these politics when I bought my Rockness ticket. And the only T&C’s I agreed to was that the billed artists could change.

Not by any stretch of the imagination can the torch bearer and BBC London entourage be considered using section 10 of the T&C’s: “The artist and performer line-up and all billed attractions at the Festival may be subject to change at any time without notice”. It’s neither an attraction nor artistic.

Ehm, blackg1000 - which entire nation is proud of this shite? My nation is Scotland, and I can assure you that the entire nation is NOT proud of this. I feel quite comfy speaking on behalf of the other nations in these islands, with the exception perhaps of England (it's in their capital, so not gonna blame them for being swept up by all this). However, going by the speed of your reply, you were probably typing your unionist-type pish before I posted my last rebuttal.

Also, I must thank you for partly proving my point with your spraff. You have proved that this is indeed a highly charged and emotive political event that has no place at Rockness.

PS

Before anybody else gets sand in their vagina, me and my friends have no intention of throwing eggs, shit, cups full of pish etc. Those of you with a basic understanding of grammar and English will have read fully my statement which merely suggest that I would not be surprised to see such behaviour. And as there have been nearly 200 views of this post, it is clear that the vast majority of you are indeed bright enough to understand this; and the lack of comments indicate some sympathy or agreement with my argument.

If you have an issue why not protest to the Government in Westminster? I have no real interest in the Olympics and I do think the amount of money thrown at it is ridiculous. However, that's nothing to do with the regular people who have been chosen to carry the olympic flame, something not many people will do in their life. There will be plenty of people at Rockness who will want to watch it pass through and anyone who ruins it for them is frankly a dick.

MobRoolz – Your limp-wristed response reveals the identity of the true troll. One third of your own list has a negative comment towards this issue; maths may not be my strongest point, but I’m pretty sure yours is worse if you think that this means “…almost all of those are happy about it…”. And last time I looked, Twitter was a very small part of a vast array of online social networking tools.

Feel free to have a diametrically opposed standpoint, but FFS, grow a pair! You can hardly be described as verbose (sorry, big word, look it up). Engelbert Humperdinck made a better come-back.

You seem to think having an extensive vocabulary to throw around makes you seem intelligent. It doesn't. It's just makes you look like a pompous windbag.

You seek to politicise something to suit your own agenda, which is abundantly clear, not least after the "unionist pish" remark. We get it, you don't like it, infact the number of parties occuring this weekend throughout the United Kingdom must have really got your panties in a bunch.

Until you get your Yes vote, or not as I suspect will be the case, then shut up.

It's a major sporting event taking place in the country and a once in a lifetime event for people to see the torch pass by. These people wouldn't have a chance to see in their hometowns since they're at Rockness. It's a happy time, maybe not for you, but shit happens, I'm fairly certain RockNess is a big enough place for you not to see what I can only assume will be a fleeting visit.

The issue of the flags is a complete crock of shit, there will be no flags of St George flying over any stadia either. It's Team GB. The Union Flag will be the only one on display, if the scottish government or SFA didn't like this (and I'm fairly certain it would have been clear from the start) then they shouldn't have agreed to host any events.

Your first and only posts have been this thread, I suspect you're not even going to Rockness, merely seeking to stir up trouble.

MobRoolz:

~"...infact the number of parties occuring this weekend throughout the United Kingdom must have really got your panties in a bunch..."~

You mean the fact that out of 9,500 UK parties, Scotland's only having 60? Yeah, sure, that really put sand in my vagina.

~“..not least after the "unionist pish" remark.”~

Had you read what I responding to i.e. the post that was made by another forum member, then you wold not have come to this conclusion. Yet again you have revealed your somewhat diminished ability to grasp the fundamentals of any reasoned debate.

~"Until you get your Yes vote, or not as I suspect will be the case, then shut up."~

You are presuming too much, while at the same time proving my point about this being a political issue. So please, continue rattling your scabardless sabre. It only further adds weight to my original point. The subtle vitriolic tones of your comments belie your staunch beliefs.

~“The issue of the flags is a complete crock of shit, there will be no flags of St George flying over any stadia either.”~

Ehm, *cough* I think you’ll find that it’s just a wee bit more than a ‘crock of shit’ when a nation complains in such great numbers that the decision is reversed and no further demands for us to remove our nations’ flag from our national stadium will be issued for the Olympics. http://www.bbc.co.uk/news/uk-scotland-18294786

The Cornish, Welsh and Scots all complained in defence of their respective national flags. I believe there were similar complaints made in England? (This is kinda further eroding your ‘almost everybody is happy about it’ statement a wee bit, but hey, never mind).

~“Your first and only posts have been this thread, I suspect you're not even going to Rockness, merely seeking to stir up trouble.”~

Yeah, y’got me. I don’t really have an opinion; I just like to cause trouble. Going to Rock..what? I get a kick out of defending a valid point against amadans like you, no other reason to be here...

Get a grip, man. When I posted here, I was looking for banter with my intellectual equal or those of a similar mind. Thankfully, I found that in both rexclark and Gothenburg83. Just unfortunate I had to wade through a primordial quagmire of prolixity and circumambages in the process. But hey ho…

You really should read more; pay more attention to the world around you; learn to look before you leap, so to speak. There’s a maxim we teach kids here in Scotland. I goes something like ‘Better to keep your mouth shut and appear stupid, than open it and remove any doubt…’.

Craig Mcfarlane - Wind yer neck, ffs. By all means have an opinion, but take a leaf out of goob125's book. He stated his opinion clearly without descending into a pitiful profane tirade. Dae y'kiss yer maw wae that mooth?

I bet you didn't even read the entire thread, am I right? You just read the very first post in this thread and thought "osha hoor sir, that’s ma buzz twatted!”. I believe the dummy you’ve just spat has taken out an orbiting satellite…
