I agree with Devilman that both (big & small fests) is the answer if you can afford it.

A good section of my personal tastes are furfilled by Download/Reading/Soni (rawk 'n' metulz FTW!) the smaller rock and metal festivals just aren't enough for me.

If I could drag friends over to Europe I would definitely do just European fests and small fests (might continue to do Bestival). For some reason it's easier persuading people to spend more overall on doing big fests here than less on better equivalents abroad.

I found out from a local that the Orion show had 22k people at it so thats why it worked. Can't think they made any money on it as a result. So not really a model that could be replicated outside of a vanity project. :D

But highly recommended if it's on again next year and people can handle an 8 hour flight and expensive accomodation. :D

no, if you had a great time, fucking go for it fella. I just saw a gang of fat, up their own arses people who absolutely hated each other.

I saw them about 5 times pre split, and they were something very very special. they were probably my fave band in the world at one stage.

anyway, back on topic.

you surprise me, I spoke to loads of people on the sunday morning who agreed. both mates I was with agreed, and the guys on the metal hammer podcast even came out and said it.

the people on the sunday morning were probably the most surprising, because it came across as a kind of "unspeakable, difficult truth" at the time, with few people wanting to admit that such a hyped event had ended up so flat.

its not as if we were stood at the back, away from the main throng either, we were quite close to the front.

I think its fair to say that one man's muck is another man's money!
