The Nal
I assume RVP would want to match Rooneys wages, would the United board be happy with that? Edited July 20, 2012 by The Nal
pink_triangle
Woo! Exciting times. Struggling to pick defenders though. Villa won't be as defensive with McLeish gone, Swansea may not be as solid without Rodgers, not to mention 2nd season syndrome, 'Pool and Spurs no longer have a cheap defender in their midst... strummer77
I thought liverpool werent allowed to bid for Swansea players. Would be interesting to see how he managed at liverpool, some have said he is too small but I think he is clever enough to make up for his lack of physical presence. I think the fee could be problem, liverpool were taken for mugs in the transfer market by selling clubs last year and others will want to take advantage, liverpool on the other hand will want to show they can negotiaite which could leave in a sizable gap betweem what swansea will accept and liverpool will pay. kaosmark2
I think it will be a hard season to predict, about half the teams either werent in the league last year or have changed their manager. The promoted teams look relatively strong to me, I think norwich are more likely to have 2nd season syndrome than swansea but both could be sucked in. eFestivals
I'm not convinced by Di Matteo. Someone here (possibly Strummer) posted a pic comparing stats suggesting that AVB actually had a better win %, goals/game, etc. it's no suggestion, it's a fact. But it's perhaps a bit unfair on Di Matteo - because he pretty much deliberately decided to throw some games, to try and ensure they won the games that mattered. As they did win the games that mattered as a result of throwing those other games, I guess it would be wrong to regard that decision as anything other than good management. But of course if it hadn't panned out like that it would have been a dreadful decision.

eFestivals
Indeed, however it doesn't bode well for managing a team over a season in 4 competitions. oh, I dunno about that. It was a very particular set of circumstances that he had to deal with, and he made sure he dealt with them to Chelsea's best advantage. As he's not picking up a bad position and trying to make something good from it at the start of the new season as he was when he took over from AVB, he's likely to have a different approach to the one he had at the end of the season. He did extremely well with MK Dons, so it's a bit early to write him off. I don't think what he did at the end of the season has any baring on how things go from now. pink_triangle
Looking at the olympic squad and those who have missed out (either england squad or injured) I have very low expectations of the young britisb talent coming through at present, particularly in terms of attacking players. I havent seen the bulk of the Brazil olympic squad play more than a few games but they seem to have the whole of the world talking about them. I dont think there are many people in Britian excited about the young British talent coming through, never mind the world! I can see the likes of Welbeck, Ramsey, Sturridge and Cleverly being solid premiership players but they are a bit uninspring.

kaosmark2
I think the problem of breeding exciting young footballers comes from the fact that hoofball is considered the acceptable way to play up to around 12th place in the Prem. Spanish teams play technical football right down, even if the lack of quality really shows up more. Shit teams can beat big teams moderately often here because skill is much less of an issue until you reach the top level of English football. pink_triangle
How many get the chance though? You look at Brazil and it seems a breeding groubd if young exciting players who get in there top teams at a young age. Won't happein the prem due to the high level and being blocked by the players and the likes you talk about.
pink_triangle
I personally think RVP should go to Juventus, with Milan in transition they could be in for another period of Serie A domination and he would also continue the huge influence that he currently enjoys at Arsenal as they are not a side full of big name players. I think at a team like City, Barcelona or Madrid he could end up being just another big name amongst a load of other big names which I dont know would suit him as much, maybe winning trophies would make up for this. I dont understand why Man U are even in for him, considering they dont have an infinite amount of money it seems a strange position to prioritise. Im starting to think its one of those bids that clubs sometimes make knowing they wont get the player to convince players and fans of their ambition. eFestivals
I personally think RVP should go to Juventus, with Milan in transition they could be in for another period of Serie A domination nah, not now the authorities are again on the case of corruption in italian footie. Juve only 'win' things when it's corrupt; they don't win the title, they - literally - buy it. Edited July 23, 2012 by eFestivals
