pink_triangle
You'd think with La Liga won Barca would go for the cup as well though. It's not like the second leg against Milan is in just a few days. I can't see Bale staying if Spurs don't get top 4. In fact I think if they only scrape it they'll struggle to keep him. Man U are seriously short of wingers though. Nani, Valencia, Ashley Young are ALL in bad form, and you get the impression over the last 18 months that Nani's time has come and he's going to get sold in the summer. I can seriously see them selling 2 of those to free up wages to get Bale. I think City are more likely, but I wouldn't rule the Mancs out. I still reckon Bayern's more likely though. Robben's unhappy and will probably go, which would cover Bale's wage and a fair whack of the fee. Bale's at his best when switching around behind a striker as well, so Bayern's 4-2-3-1 would suit. Real maybe, but I think they'll be more likely to look for a striker than a winger. Other German clubs might try and lay a claim, Dortmund using the Levandovski funds? kaosmark2
A lot of people are talking about him going abroad, its quite possible that he doesnt want to leave the premiership. Most top British players would rather not take the gamble when there is huge money to be made staying in the same country. Im not sure the German league has the glamour to tempt a player like Bale away, Bayern may be able to afford his wages, but I doubt there are any dortmund players on close to 200k a week. I think if your Bale you want to see what spurs ambitions are, if they are going into next season with Defoe and Adebayor as the main forward, there not much room for improvement. TheGayTent
Can't see anyone in Germany with the combination of finances and capability to win the top honours other than Bayern. Re Tottenham - Walker is not as good as many make out.

thetime
Im not sure what to make of the result of el classico. From one perspecitve any game between the 2 teams will be treated serioulsy. However I also suspect (with la liga won) that Barcelona are completely focussed on the 2nd leg against Milan and possibly willing to let the cup go. i also wonder if Vilanovas absence has hit them more than expected. TheGayTent
Despite the fact they've gone 2 years without winning a trophy? Dortmund's success wasn't a one-off fluke. Bayern have strengthened and will win trophies this year, but just like English clubs other than Man U have won things (inc. Champs Lge), so will other German clubs, including the Champs Lge. kaosmark2
Sorry, what I meant but clearly forgot to add to the end of what I was saying re Dortmund/Bayern was that it was in relation to Bale and attracting him to the Bundesliga. Bayern's revenue is approximately a third bigger than Dortmund's. Bayern regular get through to the latter stages of the CL, Dortmund don't. Dortmund's MO when it comes to transfer policy is very much to buy young, promising, talented, but ultimately unproven footballers who they can develop and sell on for profit. Bayern meanwhile often spend big on proven players. Bayern's wage bill is bigger than Dortmund's. That's why I can't see Dortmund and Bale being a match. Where as Bayern is a possibility. pink_triangle
It's definitely possible. RVP isn't even British and he didn't want to. Well it depends whether he wants glamour, Champs Lge glory, or money. The Bundesliga doesn't have the glamour of the Prem, La Liga and Serie A, but the teams there play exciting football and are improving in the Champs Lge every year. I reckon they'll be more Champs Lge trophies going to Germany than England over the next decade. Edit: Also I agree regarding Spurs. They need CBs and strikers, and a better wide player than Lennon for the other side.

kaosmark2
I imagine he wants all 3! He isnt going to go to china to play for 250k a week and at the same time he isnt going to go to barcelona and play for 25k a week. While going to russia and china for a huge wage could be considered greed, I wouldnt consider going to a big club in europe on a huge wages is necessarily greedy, it would just be market value for a young player with a track record of being a regular matchwinner in one of the worlds best leagues. I have no problem if Bale gets paid wages comparible to a rooney, rvp or toure, his perfomances on the pitch are justification enough. The reality however is that the wages his level of performance demands will significantly cut down his list of options. I doubt the best paid player at Dortmund is on much more than 100k a week, so theres no way they are going to double that for someone else and at the same time pay 30 million plus transfer fee. Your probably only looking at man u, man c, chelsea, barca, madrid, munich and psg who could do that. I do have some fears for dortmund, the romantic in me loves to see how they have developed as a club in recent years. However the realist wonders how they will hold on to a talented group of players, if they can get paid significantly more elsewhere. Players will see levondowski having his wages doubled and want some of that. I have got the impression that a lot of the hype around Walker has died down in the last year. He isnt an amazing right back but he is in a league full of right backs who are also not amazing, so he is probably adequate.

kaosmark2
Shame they can't get knocked out of the Europa by Liverpool. That would have been just a bit hilarious.
pink_triangle
I cant believe Im doing this but Im going to stick up for chelsea fans a little. People say the way they have reacted about Benitez is linked to the mentality of the club, however i think that fans of any club would have reacted in a similar way. If a manager makes comments about a club and then one day goes to manage them, the fans are always going to have a negative attituide at the start. Football fans are fickles and if results significantly improve then the past will be forgotten, the fact is results havent really improved with Benitez, so the negative feelings remain. I am of the view that Benitex (while being a competent manager) wasnt the right man for chelsea, the past was always going to make things diffcult for him to be succesfull. I dont think its his fault or the clubs but they were just a partnership never likely to succeed. Theres never a shortage of managers looking for work, so they should have looked elsewhere. thetime
Also the way the real blame lies at Abramovic's door but in a sport dominated by money they won't dare protest against the board.
kaosmark2
I dont think its the fact that Chelsea are against him, plenty of managers aren't really wanted (e.g. Pardew at first) but I think its the intensity and how its damaging the team. Also the way the real blame lies at Abramovic's door but in a sport dominated by money they won't dare protest against the board. To be fair loads of the press also had a go at Liverpool fans for not giving Hodgson long enough, and the "abuse" was absolutely minimal. A few sarcastic Hodgson for Englands and a Clap clap Dalglish (which occasionally gets sung anyway) and we were in the relegation zone! kaosmark2
Why would they have a go at abromovic? His given them success with premier leagues, champions leagues and fa cups. Wheres the ani glazier movement gone? Do you think you would be rid of hicks if you were winning leagues? Its the way he does things get rid of managers, you cant criticise him as its got him trophies.
thetime
At any other club if the board got rid of a popular manager they would target the board. Chelsea fans acknowledging Abrahamovich's funds and not targeting his is one thing, but shifting that anger onto managers is crazy. pink_triangle
Didn't he win a Real Madrid poll recently for who they most wanted to manage them? Most teams in Spain would have him. Inter fans didn't want rid of him either. Not many teams in England though I would agree, but over here people rate Redknapp above him. Which is hilarious.
