If Liverpool are smart they'll suspend him. Otherwise he'll end up with a much larger ban from the FA due to Liverpools inaction.

Defoe was different. The ref saw that and acted. Only a yellow granted but they are the rules. No citing if the ref saw it.

The only real comparisons I can think of here are Suarez in Holland and Dylan Hartley playing rugby for England last year. Both bit a player and both got 7-8 game bans.

Either way, I think people calling for him to be sacked/sold/jailed etc are a bit OTT. But its absolute madness isn't it? The ball was still in play! Love this angle. Ivanovic can't believe it!

Cantona kicked that idiot back in January 95. Amazing how far back people will go to deflect blame from a player. Nearly 20 years?!

For the record I don't think LFC should get rid of Suarez based on this but they should suspend him for the rest of the season purely to avoid a bigger ban from the FA.

1 min 9 seconds. Tell me that isn't an attempt to injure a fellow pro. Its way worse than Keano on Haaland.

Theres loads and loads of examples of bad tackles. As I said, Keano was just stupid to use it to sell a book. And theres a misconception that it ended Haalands career too. It didn't.

It was a pre-meditated assault though. Oh and Gerrard used to do some horrendous tackles, not sure they were pre-meditated though. Perspective in football really is warped if spitting/biting is worse than pre-meditated assault though.

that old Souness tackle for Rangers is the best though!

Agreed there are loads of terrible tackles but the admission of guilt makes intent a lot easier to prove than without it. Keane effectively admitted to going out to injure a fellow member of his professional union, that is about as low as it gets.

From memory man utd on knowledge of this didnt suspend him as you are suggesting liverpool should. They allowed the FA disciplinary procedure to do their job and investigate and accept the punishment. I personally think the punishment was too lenient and he should have been given a life ban from FA affiliated competition along with criminal charges but others obviously felt differently.

Thats a bit much in fairness. I we go down that route there won't be any players left! Keane got sent off for that tackle, banned for 3 game and fined 5k.

Was only 18 months later when he brought his book out that they gave him a further 5 game ban and 150k fine. Up until that point it was just another nasty tackle.

The only reason I think LFC should have suspended Suarez was to protect him from the FA. Its open season on him now. The FA love a bit of previous too. In the last 18 months hes been up in front of them twice. Once for racial abuse and once for giving the Fulham fans the bird.

Throw in 10 yellows this season too.

I am not sure I see it as really unique the method is certainly unusual but its a type of assault just like an elbow in the face, a right hook or a leg breaking challenge. I think some people are going a bit OTT because its so unusual but its no worse than all those other types of assault just a case of the others happen more often that people have almost accepted them as part of the game. In fact if I was going to be assualted on the pitch I would probably prefer what Suarez did to Ivanovic to all the other examples. Just as a club doesnt suspend a player when they elbow an opposition member in the face, I wouldnt expect any different for a player who bites.

Why would it been an overreaction to make a complaint to the police for being assaulted by a thug ?

It amazes me how football is in a bubble to such an extent that this sort of thing is just brushed under the carpet by some.

I just can't get my head around the mentality of football fans even though I was a season ticket holder for 26+ years. Glad I am out of it to be frank. Better person for it.
