Never to the degree chelsea and man city have which is something the English game has never seen. Arsenal were always amogst the bigger wage bills as long as I can remember. The premiership was effectively an arsenal and man utd fight (barring blackburns win) untill chelsea got involved. If chelsea and man city hadnt got involved then I suspect arsenal would have won more league titles but thats history. Unfortunately spending power is the main factor that contributes to success in football and this effect is getting greater by the year which means arsenal were maybe able to absorb it better in the past. Look through the top european leagues, how many clubs with the 4th (or lower) biggest wages bills in their league are winning league titles. The odd one in France but its extremely rare. Unfortuantely football has changed and become more financially orientated. Its easy to look back to how teams managed 10/20/30 years ago but the factors then were different to those now.

But always with the same relationship. Man Utd were spending more than Arsenal, but player costs were cheaper. Now player costs are more expensive, Arsenal are spending more but the other clubs are spending more than them. It's the same thing.

At this rate it wont be long before Wenger has worked longer than the other 19 put together!. Pulis is a difficult one for me. 13th is a reasonable finish but it could easily have been a lot worse. Maybe he has taken them as far as they can go, on the other hand they could end up like charlton when curbishley left finding the grass isnt always greener on the other side. I can see the argument that they have spent a lot and not developed enough of their young players, but I guarantee fans wont be happy to see a stoke team full of locals in the championship. Overall i think its probably the right decision, but am struggling to see where stoke go from here.

I think its a fair price, Liverpool get the cash and west ham a player who probably is a £15 million player in the current market. I suspect he is using the fact that its early on in the transfer window to keep his options open, I have a feeling he will find he doesn't have many.
