pink_triangle
Kolo Toure to liverpool, not convinced that is a good move. Maybe Brendan has got him confused with his brother!

thesecretingredientiscrime
Never to the degree chelsea and man city have which is something the English game has never seen. Arsenal were always amogst the bigger wage bills as long as I can remember. The premiership was effectively an arsenal and man utd fight (barring blackburns win) untill chelsea got involved. If chelsea and man city hadnt got involved then I suspect arsenal would have won more league titles but thats history. Unfortunately spending power is the main factor that contributes to success in football and this effect is getting greater by the year which means arsenal were maybe able to absorb it better in the past. Look through the top european leagues, how many clubs with the 4th (or lower) biggest wages bills in their league are winning league titles. The odd one in France but its extremely rare. Unfortuantely football has changed and become more financially orientated. Its easy to look back to how teams managed 10/20/30 years ago but the factors then were different to those now. kaosmark2
But always with the same relationship. Man Utd were spending more than Arsenal, but player costs were cheaper. Now player costs are more expensive, Arsenal are spending more but the other clubs are spending more than them. It's the same thing.

pink_triangle
We lose Carra and look to bring in Kolo Toure, dear god! He will be on a free transfer but no doubt on a huge wage if it goes through.
TheGayTent
All depends on the calibre of manager they could attract to replace him with. I'm struggling to think of anyone who you would think would improve them that they could attract bar a gamble on a novice.

kaosmark2
At this rate it wont be long before Wenger has worked longer than the other 19 put together!. Pulis is a difficult one for me. 13th is a reasonable finish but it could easily have been a lot worse. Maybe he has taken them as far as they can go, on the other hand they could end up like charlton when curbishley left finding the grass isnt always greener on the other side. I can see the argument that they have spent a lot and not developed enough of their young players, but I guarantee fans wont be happy to see a stoke team full of locals in the championship. Overall i think its probably the right decision, but am struggling to see where stoke go from here.
thesecretingredientiscrime
One or two teams spending about 20-30% more is the same as 4 teams spending up to 100% more than them? I have no idea how to reply to that.

TheGayTent
But not that Carroll has agreed personal terms... In other news we've released Cole (not surprising but I'm slightly disappointed) and signed the Rat - Razvan Rat, 31 year old Romanian captain. Can't say I've seen a lot of him. pink_triangle
There wasn't just one or two teams spending more. Arsenal were being outspent by the majority of teams up the top, it was just smaller amounts. It's fairly obvious.

pink_triangle
Fee is about £15 million isn't it? More than I thought we would get for him to be honest. Just hope he agrees to the move.
kaosmark2
Supposedly we want him back, but only at a huge cut price. And Liverpool don't want to deal with us for some reason
TheGayTent
I think its a fair price, Liverpool get the cash and west ham a player who probably is a £15 million player in the current market. I suspect he is using the fact that its early on in the transfer window to keep his options open, I have a feeling he will find he doesn't have many.
