I've heard criticism of Spurs in the media for constantly selling their best player, they referenced older deals like Berbatov and Carrick along with VDV and Modric last year. I actually think they, much like Arsenal, have done well to get big fees for these players and reinvest. If you refuse an overinflated fee, particularly if the player wants to move, it suggests the player is bigger than the club, and gives no bargaining position for wages on a renewed contract or anything.

Unless you're selling to rivals, I see the stubbornly refusing to sell as far more stupid. Spurs or Liverpool selling their star to Real and reinvesting seems a better way to construct a squad to take the club forward than allowing the 'one-man-team' scenario to perpetuate.

I'm not sure however much Tottenham get for Bale is good for them.

It's just another sign to all players they still aren't a 'top' team.

If they want to progress, ideally they want to sign tried and tested top quality players. They may have the capital if they sell Bale to be able to afford big transfer fees to do this, but are they going to attract those players? Given they can't offer CL football and have just demonstrated (again - should it occur) they sell their best players. Plus of course, as they have no CL football they don't have a CL wage budget either...

So, they're still in the market for players in the tier below the top level, and/or youngsters, and hoping to pick up some gems a la Modric/Bale.

They might succeed.

Or they might end up wasting semi large fees on more Pavlyuchenko's and Bentley's...?

Ultimately, they have to gamble until they get a top 4 finish.

That's the point, it'll be virtually impossible to get a like for like equal for bale, let alone better replacement. Any other areas they may choose to strengthen using the bale money, if Lewis/Levy allow, will be a gamble.

Just as likely to buy a Pav/Bentley (or both) as they are a Bale/Modric. That's before you take into account what message selling Bale sends to possible player targets.

Suggesting x amount for Bale whatever huge amount x is doesn't necessarily equate to a better all round team.

I personally beleive Spur's problem has always been they think they are bigger than they are, they pay over the odds for a lot of their players. Especially the two mentioned.

I beleive for that £85 million, you could get a perfectly adaquete left midfielder and a decent forward, not to mentione strengthen some other psotions with perfectly acceptable players, no superstars, but you could build a team a good team, and football after all is a team game.

I would trust AVB with that kindda money a lot more than a Jol or a Harry or others.

I see Villa are getting linked with ALL sorts lately.

Montepellier have confirmed we have bid for Younes Belhanda along with A. Madrid, Galatasaray, Inter & AC Milan! Tough company!

Positive is he said he wants to go England or Germany, well we're the only team that match that

English media been saying Spurs and Arsenal are in for him, but clearly they aren't [yet, anyway]

Says they want 15m euros

I also saw Bulgarian double could be on the cards

Tonev deal is close at £2.5m, apparently he's told teammates he's signing for Villa, Bulgarian press saying he'll be confirmed on Thursday

also been confirmed also by Popov, who says Villa are in for him and wants to come and join Tonev at Villa next season.

Jesus Navas to Citeh.

I like that signing, but having an outright winger suggests to me they need a striker who can finish crosses. City's play is usually very narrow, which suits Tevez and Aguero more. Be interesting to see what other signings they make, and if they ship anyone out.

Its certainly an interesting signing, the league has become too full of wingers who are basically glorified sprinters and very mediocre footballers. I remember reading he had problems with homesickness in the past so hope he settles. I personally always hoped Joaquim would come to the premiership but its probably too late now.

The duopoly in spain has really benefited the other major leagues with the likes of Silva, Llorente and Martinez forced abroad to find a big club. Even some of the best of the rest seem to be targeted, rumours of negredo to west ham today.

I am sure Carroll will sign eventually. Im certain he would rather go back to liverpool or newcastle but with both avenues closed to him, I suspect he is a man withou options.

£80k a week for doing nothing is not "no options".

There's a report this morning that he wants £100k a week to sign for West Ham.
