TheGayTent
or is it more of signal to andy carroll?
lharris92
Nope. Carroll has all but signed. He'll be unveiled alongside the unveiling of the new strip. No new enquiry re Negredo has happened, and the (old) story has been leaked by their chairman.
TheGayTent
Quite like the home apart from the collar. Dislike the away - light blue shorts with white shirt? Not for me - go back to light blue shorts and light blue shirt with 2 claret rings I say

LondonTom
Yeah I like the away shirt to, very smart! The shorts look a bit odd though. I can see what they tried to do, but it just looks odd. (But then I think my favorite away strip was the Fila one with the claret stripes and claret shorts!) Quite like the home one even with the collar! And there is no way West Ham made a bid for Negredo this window that's money we don't have as its tied up waiting for Andy to make a decision (or already tied up according to rumour.) TheGayTent
I assume the answer lies in the fact you must have different colour away shorts to that of the colour of your home shorts. Though it would have made sense to have claret shorts with a white shirt than light blue.

kaosmark2
Fernandiniho and Navas at least look a step up from the players they were signing a year ago. The likes of Sinclair were never going to do anything, these could if they settle. He looks expensive but for a team with an unlimited budget price is pretty meaningless. pink_triangle
Slightly harsh on the rest of their signings. Sinclair didn't make sense, but Nastasic looked excellent after the first 3 months settling in, Rodwell has decent potential, particularly for an English player who'll qualify as a home-grown member of the squad, and they couldn't have anticipated Javi Garcia would be quite as huge a flop. The problem a year ago was that they didn't sign a single good attacking player, a centre-back, a DM, a box-to-box mid and a winger they never play (particularly given their narrow formation) just didn't have any balance. kaosmark2
Nastasic took a few months to settle in, but yeah, he's excellent now. As I said, I don't actually think the quality of player is necessarily a step up, just last year they didn't buy any quality attacking players (or really any attacking players at all). I think Rodwell is decent, I certainly see more in him than I do in most of the other English players of similar age who've had hype around them (except Wilshere), but he's very inconsistent, has had a lot of injuries already, and I can't see him being an essential part of the current city team. He plays vaguely similarly to Yaya, winning the ball deep and driving forward, attempting to finish the move, but I don't think he'll ever be in the same league. I reckon he's the long-term replacement for Barry (what with the homegrown player rules), and I don't see him ending up substantially different quality wise (either though they're slightly different types of player), probably slightly better but similar league. Agree on Steklenberg, been out of sorts a bit at Roma in recent seasons supposedly (I don't really follow Italian football that closely, Nal?), but definitely talented, and Cech's shown recently that top keepers can have a bad season or two and then return to form. Poliwhirl
He actually got the comment in that “Having said we’re going to get into the Champions League, I can’t wait to see the transfer fees” after Kenwright made his one. Glad to see they are getting the digs in from day one. Kenwrights speech seemed to be just about how great Moyes was..
Benj
Really annoyed me that, He shouldn't of mentioned Moyes at all imo and concentraited on Roberto and the future. I'd imagine the transfer funds Bill will give Martinez is for the likes of McCarthy and McManaman. Any further buys will surely be from the inevitable sale of Fellaini. mrtourette
I hope Kenwright's seen something more in Martinez than his 'nice guy who tries to play lovely football' image, if he's given him the job over someone like Vitor Pereira just because of that and 100 decent minutes of FA Cup football (90 against Man City, 10 against us) then I dread to think what's going to happen. He has a terrible record of sgning defenders and goalkeepers.

lost
I'm prepared to give the guy a chance as there are much bigger issues at board level. My Wigan supporting mate points towards the 6 defenders Wigan lost to injury last year and believes they would have been top half otherwise, ive also read figures that he had to reduce the wage bill by between 20 and 50% over the Jewell and Bruce days. The Spurs result is a worry though I wouldn't rule a manager out because of relegation, I believe Wenger and klopp have both taken teams down.
