People do though neil.

well yeah, there's some very stupid people about.

I've not heard anyone banging on about brilliant Liverpool are going to be tho (tho I guess it's true to say I've not really been listening). But there's a lot to talk about at Liverpool at the mo, with the signings that have happened and speculation over who is going out and who might come in - in what has been a pretty slow transfer window they're the club that a lot has been revolving around (or rumoured to be, at least).

There's something interesting to watch there, for the moment. Before it all goes tits up in a few games, probably.

I'm quite looking forwards to Sunday, for my first proper dose of footie this season ... Liverpool/Arsenal is a game both need to win and stands a fair chance of being played with some style from both teams, followed by Soton giving Utd the run-around. :)

Can never understand certain clubs play reserves in the league cup.

Especially the likes of allardyce when he was at bolton good chance in getting to wembley, good cup run, extra revenue, european football etc etc.

You would also think the board of struggling teams would want the extra revenue aswel.

no manager has ever been sacked for going out of the cup. Managers get sacked all the time for their league performances.

I guess it's just another version of 'Arry's mercenary management view.

'Arry who won Portsmouth's first trophy in decades through the FA Cup?

lol - that's not actually what I meant.

'Arry's on record as saying something that ends up meaning "fuck what the owner wants, fuck what the fans want, look after number one".

There's more than one way to look after number one - and in Big Sam's case he's decided that he does best for himself by sacrificing the cup for the league.

So Berbs has gone to Fulham. Good move for him.

Dempsey to LFC now? Carroll gone as a result?

It sounds like Carroll is trying to hang in there at the moment - it sounds like a game of chicken, with both waiting for the other to blink first.

If Adam goes to Fulham, that might just be enough for Dempsey to go the other way. Maybe.

I'd guess it's when Dempsey comes in that Carroll knows it's time to go.

reading the beeb, Carroll seems to want to stay, is one dependant on the other? Fulham won't be too impressed now Dempsey has been unsettled if he doesn't move. Also noticed in the paper Rodgers getting the digs into Kenny...

When asked whether Liverpool could afford to

buy without selling, Rodgers replied: 'No. Not at

this stage, obviously I have seen a lot of the links

and it is great that those players would want to

come here but the reality is that we are not in a

position to do those sorts of deals.

'I don't think we are in a position to have

£35million players as third choice strikers or

wingers who are on £5-6million a year. This is

the challenge I have.

'The club needs to repair financially.

Unfortunately it is going to take more than one

window. This is an incredible club but even if

you want to move some players on, because of

the wages and other factors, they are not just

going to walk out the door.

Fulham defo aren't impressed. They made a formal complaint in July sometime about Liverpool having tapped Dempsey up.

I think it's the case that Fulham aren't definitely wanting someone in to replace him (particularly now they have Berba) before he goes, so i don't think a deal is dependent on Carroll going - tho Liverpool might have to shift Carroll (or someone else?) before they have the money for Dempsey's wages.

Ah, fair enough.

What I've been reading on Newc fansites (not necessarily the most reliable source), is that Carroll's said he'll only leave 'Pool for a Champs Lge club paying him even higher wages or to return to us. Supposedly our board are hoping 'Pool are desperate to shift him off the wagebill and will accept ~£14m (not sure whether that's before or after the 25% sell-on clause).

I still find it strange that Dempsey would want to go to Liverpool. They don't look any better than Fulham atm or like they will be for the next 3 years or so, and with his age I'd have thought he'd either want to go somewhere he will win things.

It's a difficult one to call for how Liverpool will go. While I'm sure they'd love him off the wage bill there's also the loss of face in taking such a big hit on a British record signing, as well as how they handle Carroll impacts on the attitudes of the other players they need to shift.

I guess from the Newc side they're quite happy to sit it out. They know the player will come, and they know they've have cashed in big time if it happens - while it's a player they don't actually need to have.

what other big clubs are in for him?

He's not played at a big club. While Liverpool don't have chumps footie this year there's a fair chance they might next year (and more so if they get Dempsey, I guess). At Dempsey's age the opportunities are going to be limited, and this is probably the best he'll get.

A couple of Italian clubs made enquiries supposedly. I don't even get why he'd go to Liverpool rather than stay at Fulham though. Before his sulk and Dembele's departure I'd say Fulham looked better equipped.

while Fulham seem to have stabilised since Fayed sold Harrods and actually has a bit of cash now, I can't really see them doing any better than they've been doing. If things panned out really well they might just manage one season in the top four but they wouldn't be likely to sustain it.

While it might be yet another false dawn at Liverpool, they do at least have realistic potential to be up there year after year - and who knows, maybe this isn't another false dawn. If it isn't then Dempsey has struck gold.

And as I said, Dempsey's not played for a big club. If nothing else that's one thing that Fulham can't offer him.

Whether this is another false dawn or not at Liverpool, I can't see them competing majorly this season and probably next, there's a lot of work that needs to be done and Dempsey's running out of time.

you might be right.

But the chances of him collecting any silverware or playing in the Chumps with Fulham is almost zero. It might not be huge with Liverpool, but it's surely better.

Unless there's an offer from another club that gives him better chances, he's got nothing to lose by giving Liverpool a go (and probably much to win in wages).
