As much as I don't like the song gotta say it's a good move from Muse/Matt. Prob got a bucket full of money, more exposure for the band, free marketing for new album, sell more old albums/singles for people that never listened to muse before.

Oh I'm not defending it. the lyrics are embarrassing. I was just saying it wouldn't have been partially written before them deciding it would be an Olympics-themed song.

They were approached to write the song about a year ago for the olympics so they started working on it, it was originally going to be a duet with a "brilliant piano player" (Elton John or someone I guess) so he wrote it with it in mind that he'd be playing it with them however the piano player pulled out before it was finished. Muse just decided to show the Olympic Committee what they wrote anyway and they liked it and accepted it.

I like the song, much better than the shit they've been writing recently. Obviously nowhere near as good as the older stuff but definitely better than The Resistance

It took them 8 years to write one of the songs on The Resistance so to take only a year to write a better song is good by their standards.

There's a solo in this song compared to lack of them in The Resistance (Guiding Light doesn't count that was 6 seconds long). I'm not saying a solo makes a good song but it's going back to the old Matt Bellamy way (slightly ).

Also he's using his falsetto again unlike in The Resistance, he hit's his highest chest voice in this song and matches his highest falsetto so he's actually using his voice again unlike how flat The Resistance was all the way through.

As far as I'm concerned Muse only released 4 albums then retired. Another band then appeared pretending to be them and did The Resistance and this olympics song.

i don't get why people are complaining about "how bad it is"

due to it being the official olympics track they obviously had to make it so that it would appeal to the masses not just a niche market.

lets all just wait and find out what all the other tracks on the album sound like, then start complaining about it.
