ROCK WERCHTER 2013

Yeah, they seem in quite a bad position at the moment, as they lost a ton of their original fans due to Only By the Night, and the pop fans who replaced them have now been lost due to Come Around Sundown. They're now not selling out tours and there doesn't seem to be much excitement about the new album. Caleb's problems in the past year or so can't have helped either. They lost me with the last two albums, and I certainly won't be buying tickets to one of their gigs from now on.

Crowd favorite: Editors? Really? Where we were standing no one seemed to like them. They were lacking all the power and the connection to the crown they had last year in my opinion. They were my biggest disappointment this year, with out a doubt. ...but each to his own I guess.

I can't agree with you KoL either. This was my third time seeing them at RW and this is by far their worst performance in my opinion.

Also, didn't you see Volbeat, Depeche Mode or Nick Cave?

Nice read though, I enjoyed it :)

I preferred Editors to Depeche Mode, and I was probably looking forward to Depeche Mode more. Although that may just be down to me being more familiar with Editors entire back catalogue, and being a little bit of a fangirl. I also thought they got a better crowd reaction than Depeche Mode around us. I think I was the only person around me singing along to most Depeche Mode songs, and I was in a good position in the crowd.

I did, however, think they were both great.

Missed Volbeat for James Blake and Frank Ocean who were both very good. Nick Cave was absolutely unbelievable. Incredible set.

Would agree with Gossard about editors, I'm a massive editors fan and saw them at there London gig on the Monday. Something was missing and we left before the encore had started to get our tent sorted.

My other disappointment was sigur Ros, they were good but lacked that bit of magic that they have had previously. Although this was probably my mind not being in a relaxed state after phone was stolen.

Depeche mode were stunning though, except a jerk in front of us kept putting his phone up recording it.

I kind of have to agree with you guys on Green Day. This was my third time seeing them. First at Rock am Ring in 2005 and then again at Rock Werchter in 2010 and in both cases I had a blast. This time, although I thought they were good, It's the same show, sort of, and I thought some chemistry was missing. They are in my top 10 bands at RW13, but not one of the best. Having said that, I wouldn't want them again at RW for a few good years.

Same with The Hives....after about 3-4 songs I went to the Barn to see The Lumineers and I can't say that I regret it, The Lumineers were absolutely fantastic in my opinion. Although The Hives were fun, as they always are, I couldn't stop thinking "this is exactly the same show as I saw in 2011 at Rock Werchter and in 2005 at Rock am Ring". As with Green Day, I think they should stay away from RW for a few years now.

KoL played in 07, 08, 09, 11 and 13....I think that's enough for now :)

Potential headliners for next year:

Pearl Jam

Foo Fighters

Radiohead

Metallica

Linkin Park

...next year is the 40th anniversary so I'm expecting something big, Bowie?(one can always dream :D )

Other bands:

Avenged Sevenfold

Arcade Fire

Daft Punk

Nine Inch Nails

any more ideas...or guesses? :)
