Fancy a free beer and burger at the festival?

It's true. We have just announced details on how we will be feeding and watering you over the festival.

All weekend ticket holders will get a free beer and a free burger each day of the festival. Times are tough and who doesn't love a freebie! Don't say we aren't good to you!

A message from Melvin Benn (it was his idea!)

"First thing’s first, I’m a veggie myself and have been most of my life, and of course there will be veggie burgers for all the veggies. There will also be soft drinks for people who do not or cannot drink because of age restrictions. And, as I explained to BBC 6 Music, it is only for the three music days – not everyday and only for weekend ticket holders - but it will be from a number of food stalls and it will definitely happen. As I said, even if I have to pay for it myself it will happen!"

It'll be a crappy Carlsberg Bottle.

Plus I bet you can only get it from one place at a certain time of day..

We all expect a pint of stella and a burger from any food stalls. But we all know it's not going to be as easy as that. It's melvin we are talking about here.

Bit of a con..

I'm not expecting much and to be honest unless you can cash it in at the normal bar/stalls I probably won't even bother getting them. Doubt I could be arsed to queue up just to get a freebie.

What's wrong with cashless? Safer, easier.

you'd have to go to the bar yourself at least 25 times over the weekend to cover the smallest possible time it might take to put money on these wristbands. Given that very few people would go to the bar 24 times over the weekend, it's not easier.

And how is it safer? With cash in your pocket, you are in control of your money. Your money is not safer for your own use if you have to rely on a 3td party to be able to give you access to your money, which is exactly what you'd be doing.

So want to try again? Even the less queuing is bollocks, as proven by the bigger queues than they'd be for entrance in handling paper tickets.

With cash in your pocket you're a thief away from a crap weekend.

30 years and around 250 festivals where it's not happened gets to show me just how small a possibility that is. :)

When those wristband companies have been operating at all festivals for 30 years without one having gone bust and so run off with everyone's money as a result, I'll be happy to credit them with the same level of safety I'm able to achieve for myself.

Don't forget, these companies are not banks, and they are unregulated in how they handle and account for people's money. You'd probably be safer walking into a random shop and asking the shopkeeper to look after a wad of your money. ;)

The rest of your points made evidence on hypotheticals... I especially like:

"Even the less queuing is bollocks, as proven by the bigger queues than they'd be for entrance in handling paper tickets."

Seriously? As proven by something that is a suggestion?

It's not hypotheticals - no UK festival has yet reduced queuing time by the use of electronic gate systems (and they've been used quite a lot more than just this year). Quite a few fests switched over to them a few years ago, but only used them for one year - because they were much slower than paper ticket systems.

Maybe that's why they only let you load small amounts of money on it at a time? If true? I think that concern me even greater if they don't want to be trusted with x amount 'just in case'.

I'd guess the small amounts is due to the companies not having the same faith in their own systems as they wish the public to have in them, if nothing else.

But that fact of those small amounts make them even more shit than they would be with a large amount - it's a massive time drain on users to have to top them up after almost any use.

Hmmm, just had a thought with these new Barclays stickers (things you put on phone) that they are promoting as 'new' form of payment maybe they might back the potiental wristbands for payments if they see it as fruitful I guess.
