Tips for getting rid of dog/pet smell?

Hi guys,

Ive just moved into a new house and the owner before me must have had a very hairy dog which they kept locked in the utility room as it absolutely stinks in there. It wasnt anywhere near that bad when I looked round the property originally so im guessing they havent done much cleaning since they knew they were moving out.

Anyway, any ideas/tips on how to get rid of the "wet dog" smell?

Ive bleached/industrial cleaned the room from top to bottom 4 times now and it still smells pretty bad!

Cheers.

Is the room carpeted? If is it can be sometimes impossible to get rid of the smell as the oils off the hairs can permeate through the carpet. I put someone up for 6 months with his dogs, and after he left I ended up having to throw away the carpet that he and his dogs had (he did not believe in bathing his dogs).

I haven't done this myself but cleaning an area with baking soda is apparently good at eliminating dog smells - see below;

Use Baking Soda

That's right, the same ingredient you use for baking can be helpful in removing your dog's nasty smell. This method works best if the smell has stuck to your fabrics, like your carpet or your furniture cover. Get some baking soda and sprinkle it over the smelly areas. Let it sit overnight. The next day, vacuum the baking soda. The smell will also be gone.

Thanks guys, the floors are tiled so no smells in fabrics etc. Ive had to rip out some shelving in there as it was full of dog hair. I even had to take the radiator off to clean behind, all to no avail. It does need re-painting so will be doing that asap but apart from that im at a loose end.
