I think we're probably mostly familiar with most of the bands at the top of the bill*, but what about those further down? Share your knowledge/discoveries/likes/hates/lusts here (for the sake of argument, any bands in the smallest type on the website, beginning with 2:54).

Cashier No.9: might be too poppy for some of you guys, but I'm really liking this on first and second listen. 60s-ish indie pop.

Cold Specks: "southern soul" from Toronto and now London. Excellent female vocals and a live cover of the Fresh Prince of Bel Air theme song.

Veronica Falls play light/dark pop music and sound like they should be on Flying Nun. This is a good thing.

You?

*note carefully the large number of qualifications in that statement...

The Deep Dark Woods are my main priority for the festival, despite having seen them before.

Others from lower down the bill who I would like to see;

Creature with the atom brain (saw them supporting mark lanegan band earlier this year, I remember enjoying them but little else about them, so would like to remind myself)

Deer Tick (really like their albums, but a little disappointed by their set last year/year before whenever it was, so would like to give them another chance)

Doug Paisley (missed him in the past due to clashes, so hopefully see him this year)

Hurray for the riff raff

I break horses

Lanterns on the lake (caught the very end of them supporting John Grant/Midlake, but missed the majority of the set due to bad planning, so would like to make up for that)

Mountain Man (seem to remember they pulled out one year previously)

Definitely Alt-J. I'd never heard of them before they appeared on the EOTR list, but their album is now one of my favourites for years.

Veronica Falls also good. Any band that can approximate a Dave Gedge high-speed jangly guitar lick must be good!

For me...all of the following "small text" bands are close to being Must Sees this year (among others):

-

-

-

(also missed him last time...first album is GREAT)

- Driver Drive Faster

-

(how can they be in small text?!)

-

(love this song)

-

(missed him last time too)

- Marques Toliver (please don't have a full band)

-

(seriously...this track makes you MOVE)

Can't wait xD

I saw King Charles performing at the weekend. laughably bad, don't go near him.

However, yeah, I'd echo the calls for Veronica Falls, smashing band.

I'm also really enjoying that Francois and the Atlas album, and I'm really looking forward to Cashier No.9, Deep Dark Woods and Porcelain Raft

Lots of good alt country/Americana this year. I'm so glad EOTR has alerted me to the existence of these people:

Check out this guy as well - he was new to me too:

But after last year's Black Angels/Wooden Shjips/White Denim psychfest we're lacking in that style this year. Only I Break Horses seem to fit the bill:

Although these guys play some nice funky psych:

But I'm most looking forward to the Deep Dark Woods. With any luck they'll give us a Dead cover or two:

Veronica Falls - had the lp since it came out and it has had a lot of play, jangly indie guitar, nice melody.

Cashier No. 9. Wanted to see them for a long time so looking forward to that

Driver Drive Faster - saw them support Cherry Ghost last year, similar style but different of course.

I don't quite understand the lukewarm reaction from some to this year's lineup. The only criticism I can make is too much overlap with last year, but that's the EotR way and you can't see someone like Midlake too many times, surely! (though having said that, I am hoping for a decent alternative to Low Anthem - great band but I've seen them 5 times now...)

And on topic, the undercard for me has the greatest strength in depth ever! Recommendations for artists I have seen and know are really good: Cold Specks, Deep Dark Woods, Gravenhurst, Hurray For The Riff Raff, Lanterns On The Lake, Peggy Sue, The Pictish Trail, Richard Buckner, Veronica Falls.

And those I have heard good things about and am looking forward to checking out: 2.54, Alessi's Ark, Alt-J, Big Wave, Cashier No. 9, Deer Tick, Francois &tAM, My Sad Captains, Toy, Yeti Lane.

Enough to fill a great weekend there - and that's without the bigger artists...

I've been really pleased with the undercard this year, both in terms of bands I knew before the festival and discoveries since, here's who's impressed me so far:

Dirty Beaches

Frank Fairfield

Hannah Cohen

Lanterns on the Lake

Porcelain Raft

Seth Faergolzia

Still Corners

Stranded Horse (especially love

cover from him)

Veronica Falls

Yeti Lane

Yep +1 for Veronica Falls. Really looking forward to them.

Surprised no-one has mentioned any of the following... for each I've listed a comparable act that was on last years line-up.

Our Broken Garden Down-tempo, very atmospheric. Similar to Lanterns on the Lake.

Outfit Indie pop with an 80's feel. Similar to Twin Shadow.

Poor Moon Folk/Indie pop. Loosely similar to Diagrams. Feature 2 of the Fleet Foxes lineup.

Gosh I left Poor Moon off my list of "P" bands to see.

I have to admit to getting a bit confused with Deep Dark Woods, and Dark Dark Dark. I hadn't got the fact that they were both playing. Realised now that I have liked both their latest albums.

tried hard not to go to too many things at latitude that were also on at eotr but failed.

alabama shakes did a storming set (but are hardly down the order i guess....), and Alt-J were excellent too and drew a great and enthusiastic crowd. good fun.

standout for me though was perfume genius, who headlined the 3rd (sunrise) stage - i was really worried beforehand that crowd noise would spoil it but he was treated to perfect silence in a crammed tent and performed a heart-breakingly beautiful set that drew a huge audience response that almost seemed to overwhelm him too. stunning experience.

btw i know there are definite non latituders on here, but it was a fabulous fabulous festival, best since 2008 and possibly topping that too.

I'm definitely going to be more selective this year as I spent far too much time last year running from stage to stage and only catching half performances! From the 'under-card', depending on stage times of course, I'm going to concentrate on bands I haven't seen before - so I've been doing a bit of research and my 'to see' list so far is Deep Dark Woods, Robert Ellis, Perfume Genius, Poor Moon, Toy and I also think Zachary Cale might be worth a look - has anyone seen him live?

I wil go out of my way for...

Midlake,

Beach House,

Villagers,

Alabama Shakes, missed at Latitude but sounded great drifting across the site

First Aid Kit, same as above

Perfume Genius,

missed again but everyone thinks we should have watched!

Alt-J, seemed a bit surprised by the size of the crowd but sounded ok before we wandered off

Cashier No9,

The plan after that is to amble about with a beer and see what sounds good!

So many great and/or intriguing things down the line up but I am particularly looking forward to - and would recommend to anyone:

  • Leif Vollebekk (highlight of my weekend two years ago)

  • Doug Paisley (highlight last year)

  • Outfit (Two Islands is a stonking song)

  • Cashier No 9

Also:

  • I Break Horses

  • Porcelain Raft

  • Sleep Party People

  • 2:54

  • Toy

  • The Deep Dark Woods

  • Dark Dark Dark

Also really keen to see Deer Tick, The Acorn, Veronica falls and Lanterns on the Lake again.

Plus recent investigations have shone a positive light on:

  • Alt-J

  • Driver Drive Faster

  • Eagle and the Worm

  • Hurray for the Riff Raff

  • Richard Buckner
