Your TITP Highlights and Lowlights

What was your highlights of the weekend?

Although I was working, I still managed to see a few things, even when on duty. Particularly enjoyed Snow Patrol and Example on Friday, and Keane weren't too bad either.

In terms of non-musical highlights, I can't think of much because I was far too busy to pay attention to a lot of what was going on. But. The banter from the punters was as good as ever, and although there was some annoying people, the majority were nice and it was rather pleasant all round.

The lowlights were obviously the mud. Made our job really difficult at points, and in some situations nigh on impossible!

I must confess Rizzle Kicks were actually pretty good to watch and fun to be at Keane were also very good but highlights for me were Elbow, Kasabian, New Order and Noel Gallagher and of course the Roses

highlights - Noel, Kasabian, Professor Green, Stone Roses. a string quartet in the kaleidescope tent that played stone roses, elbow, oasis songs cant remember their name though.

lows - the mud and rain. jessie j, was listening to the radio on way back and heard a lot of people saying she was amazing the best of the weekend, was thinking to myself they must be tone deaf, she was one of the worst i have ever seen at T.

Highlights - Kasabian, Noel, Calvin Harris, Tribes, The Cribs, The Courteeners, Ben Howard, Tinie Tempah, Chase and Status, The Dryburgh Soul Band ;)

Surprisingly enjoyed - McFly, The Wanted, Miike Snow

Missed - Olly Murs because I wanted a good spot for The Cribs, Miles Kane because no-one wanted to see him

Lowlight - the stupid little bitch next to me at The Wanted who pushed me because I bumped into her. There's only so many times you can apologise. And if you're greeting at getting bumped into at The Wanted, then you've got a lot to learn about live music.

That must have made me sound like a right pussy. But you know what I mean, you feel bad if you're bumping into someone at a gig, especially if its a young lassie. I can't really help my height and the fact the place was packed. Daft wee cow. I'm never getting over this :sarcastic:

Have to disagree about Ian Brown sounding out of tune, sure he is not the greatest of singers but he put out as good a performance as anyone could have expected and with the crowd singing along it made it a memorable gig

Definitely agree about them ripping the arse out of the solos though, from Standing Here, through the much arse-ripped-out-of Fools Gold ever then to put in the lesser known Something Burning caused a 15 minute portion of the gig I really didn't enjoy but apart from that I thought they were tremendous

Highlights:

The main stage acts that I saw were fantastic: Elbow and Florence & the Machine. Oh, and about half of the Stone Roses set

Some great acts on my favourite stage (Transmissions): Ren Harvieu; Django Django; Bellowhead; Little Roy

New Order in King Tut's.

A couple of decent acts on the T Break stage: Capitals; Bwani Junction

A superb performance from Laki Mera on the BBC Introducing Stage.

The vibe in the Kaleidoscope tent when the ceilidh bands were on.

The new site layout. Especially with the Transmissions, Kaleidescope, BBC Introducing stages being near Healthy T.

The food in Healthy T.

The guys who helped me get my car out of the mud on Saturday night (and who were helping others as well)

The fact that the organisers opened a new South car park on Sunday that was easy to get in and out of.

Talking to some good people all weekend (especially Shazza from Lincoln)

Lowlights

The mud (goes without saying)

The long queue and wait to get in on Saturday

Missing some bands for one reason or another: The Wailers; Alabama Shakes; Simple Minds; Jake Bugg; Woodenbox;

Shazza hasn't replied to my e-mail!

Overall, I enjoyed myself more than I expected to. The increasing number of pop acts in the last 3 years are definitely not to my taste and I still feel that there were a lot of acts playing other festivals that could have been booked (eg Jack White; Mark Lanegan). Despite that, and the fact that I prefer other festivals such as Electric Picnic, Bestival and the much missed Connect, there's usually enough going on at T to keep me coming back every year (since 1995). I hope that continues to be the case.

Highlights - The Stone Roses absolutely fucking brilliant, great setlist, Squires guitar solos were mind blowing, absolutely mindblowing gig. Kasabian were as brilliant as always, never seen them play a bad gig, great atmosphere as well and Tom and Serge were on top form. Noel was quality and was chuffed that he put Whatever in the setlist. New Order as well but I was a bit too pissed to remember all of that one.

Lows - Got dragged to see some shit and seen some shit while waiting for bands I wanted to see. Chase & Status absolutely fucking terrible and their fans were even worse, absolute tossers. Also the organisation of the campsites on arrival on Thursday, I got there for 1pm at the gates and didn't get my tent up until 8pm. Never seen such a bunch of clueless morons in charge of the campsites. The weather as well obviously but I never let it bother me too much.

Highlights-

I accept all the aforementioned points about the guitar solos and the mid-set lull but the Stone Roses were still my favourite act of the weekend and nobody will tell me otherwise. I missed them the first time round and the atmosphere at the front was buzzing, i loved every second.

Discovering some new bands such as Alt-J, Spector, Howler, King Charles and a few others.

New Order were simply outstanding.

I was at a bit of a loss as to what to see on the sunday, so we had a walk into King Tuts out of curiosity and, although i honestly am no fan of his music, i really enjoyed Skrillex's set. My guilty pleasure.

Tangerine fields, made matters so much easier.

Lowlights-

The Mud, ofcourse.

Waiting for Nicki Minaj at the request of the missus, only to walk away about a minute after she took to the stage. Fucking terrible.

Watching Jessie J in order to get a decent spot for Noel.

Stooshe, no explanation required.

Highlights -

1-Noel Gallagher, just immense, perfect festival fodder.

2-Stone Roses, worthy headliners and really showed how they have influenced so many British Indie bands. Brown and Squire where on top form.

3-New Order, hit after hit after hit, perfect king tuts headliners, although Bernard Sumner needs a charisma bypass.

4-Nero, great set up perfectly placed on the lineup.

5-Slam Tent all early/afternoon on Sunday, didnt hear a bad set.

Lowlights

getting soaked during the vaccines and having to hit the campsite to get changed.

not making it to healthy t because of the treck in the mud.

Sub Focus clashing with Stone Roses.

slam tent being closed early doors on Saturday, poor planning there from the oragnisers.

the general conditions under foot, i know the organisers cant play god but the forecast was always bleak and it seemed no other plans to make the site less of a bog where in place.

Calvin Harris and SHM playing the same slots 2 years in a row, just not good enough.

Highlights

New order on Friday! Totally my favourite set of the weekend! Temptation was insane!

Closely followed by the roses, well worth the wait and Ian brown's voice was great! Storming set!

Frank turner and the happy Mondays one after the other, brilliant afternoon and on the whole no rain!!

Healthy T , the choice, quality and prices were excellent and somewhere to take the weight off your feet!!

Hearing about the nicki Minaj delay and the crowd reaction, made me chuckle!

Noel G fantastic sub to the roses atmosphere just right for them coming on.

Thought the vaccines came of age on the main stage and can see a very high slot for them soon, brilliant set!

Lowlights

Mud mud mud! I know you can't help the weather but an amber warning was issued before the weekend so you would think the organisers would have had contingencies! A couple of tankers sucking mud made no change, where were metal roads etc, bet the artists had clean shoes!!! Turned into a total health and safety nightmare .

Having the misfortune of seeing Jessie j as I

just couldn't face moving through the mud again

And wanting a decent spot for Noel G, got she is awful!

The poor turnout for elbow, such a shame and they were sooo good as well!

The walk to the car park in the Monday just about the worst thing I've ever taken on!!

  • 2 weeks later...

highlights -

  • shm on the sunday night - AMAZING, will remember it forever. perfect way to end the festival

  • being at the front for labrinth - dont think it would have been the same standing at the back

  • the free chocolate sauce dip I got with my doughnuts on sunday - best tasting thing i had out the whole 3 days

  • atmosphere at calvin harris - words cant explain

lowlights -

  • drunk friend pulling me into the mosh pit at tinie tempah, not a good idea

  • the food - some of the worst tasting things I have ever had. only managed to eat about half of what ever I brought. the only full thing I ate was a burger at 3am on monday morning, probably because i was half drunk

  • the 2 hour trek round the campsites at 5pm on thursday trying to find a space to camp. shocking organisation and we were lucky to get a space where we did.

  • that circus show thing on sunday night i think on sunset, no idea what was going on but i never want to see anything like that again

disappointments -

  • chase and status - was really looking forward to them and just felt they really didnt live up to my expectations

Surprises -

  • last minute decision to see nero instead of nicki minaj, worked perfectly, went straight from chase and status to nero then shm, crowd was amazing, i would have been gutted if id stood at minaj when all that was going on and missed them

  • the couteeners - never heard of them but loved their set, nice to find someone i didnt know about

Highlights- Noel Gallagher, New Order who were fantastic, Stone Roses, Chase and Status (mainly second half of their set or to be precise after they did the killing in the name of cover because after that i really got into the swing oof things), Kaiser Chiefs (despite the twats that started the brawl during the set) keane were also suprisingly good and Elbow who were perfect where they were in terms of time of day and stage but i did like how the crowd for Elbow was quite small at the start and then grew quite well it was only until afterwards that i found out about Minaj which is proberly why the crowd grew.

Lowlight- Hands down the rain on the saturday which washed away my tent luckily got most of my stuff out in time and i managed to find a place in Kinross to stay so i could keep on with the weekend

Highlights - example (unexpected), the cribs, new order, the subways, the wailers, wall of death.

Lowlights - leaving early on the sat before the roses (will prob regret forever but correct decision at time), the food (went to healthy t as ever but for some reason didn't enjoy anything this year), allowing myself to be dragged to some terrible acts, the mud, the comedy tent, the queues at the day entrances.

Worst year ever, still enjoyed myself.

Highlights:

Noel and the Roses playing Saturday night, it was awesome!

Everyone (a full tent, however, only about 1000 people if not less) went absolutely crackers in the Transmissions stage/tent for Reverend and the Makers, it was a brilliant performance I have to say, since seeing it I've booked tickets to see them on their UK tour in October. Another good thing was that I got out of seeing the shite that is Nicki Minaj becasue they clashed.

Kasabian were good, the only act of which I knew every single song they played.

The View and Blood Red Shoes were also very good.

Lowlights:

I was at the front waiting for Feeder having watched a crappy rapper set from Hilltop Hoods, and they cancelled last minute... Feeder clashed with Kaiser Chiefs too so I didn't get to see either... not a good start to the festival for me.

The clashes in general... I missed Two Door Cinema Club, they clashed with Noel. New Order clashed with Snow Patrol.

One of the acts I was most looking forward to turned out not so good, The Temper Trap did have 2-3 really good tunes but the rest were poor in my opinion, I was at the front for these though.

Wish I seen the Vaccines, Simple Minds, New Order, TDCC, Miles Kane, all of which I ended up missing.

Wish that I had seen a few acts in the T break stage and that I could have went in the slam tent, there was just so much to do over the weekend.

Between my group we had about 30-40 left over cans due to us being in the arena and up and about ALL day. Don't get me wrong I like a drink but 1) it makes you need the toilet during acts 2) if you are in the arena from 12-12 chances are you are only going to drink what you manage to smuggle in, which was only two cans in my case. 3) if you get into a state its only going to ruin it for yourself, I wanted to see as much music as possible and I came home knowing that is what I had done.

It was my first time at TITP, infact my first ever festival, everyone is saying the weather was really bad this year so I guess I can look forward to better weather for another festival next year *touch wood*

It's going to be either TITP again or Glastonbury for me next year, I'm not one to commit until I know what the line up is though.

All in all I think TITP2012 was brilliant, I noticed everyone complaining about there being too much pop shit on the bill but I realised that theres enough clashes going on so that you can avoid the pop and still get to all the proper music (not minaj miming, calvin playing his CD's and Guetta pushing his faders).

Highlights - Olly Murs (was expecting to hate him but he was a great performer), Noel Gallagher, The Stone Roses (couldn't have cared less for the reunion but could not fault them in any way), Fun. (the singalong to We Are Young was the best part of the weekend)

Lowlights - Twin Atlantic (I thought they felt drowned on that big Main Stage), Jessie J acting like a twat (her songs were great but she's an idiot), the mud (the site wasn't even that muddy, it was just flooded), Pro Green (my mates wanted to see him but I thought he was awful)
