I've started stopping myself saying anything immediately after an announcement (if my immediate thoughts are negative) to give it time to sink in. I was totally expecting Rihanna, especially after I saw her most recent tour dates. Maybe not headlining but subbing at the minimum.

I actually entered a guess the headliner competition on another festival website for this year and my guesses were The Stone Roses, The Killers and Rihanna. Got dragged along to one of her concerts last year at the SECC and she puts on a good show. She has a ridiculous amount of albums under her belt and I think she is totally deserving of the spot. Maybe not to everyone's tase but she's a mega star. To be honest it wasn't going to be long before they had a totally poppy headliner after what they have dished up recently.

I have an issue with Mumford (I refuse to call them M&S cus I am a big fan of the shop M&S) not that they shouldn't be headlining (record sales wise) I just find them a bit dull and I would rather headliners were more energetic. IMO they were the damp squib of the announcement.

The rest was pretty much to be expected - would have been excited about Jake Bugg but will see him at GG a few weeks before.

It's all sank in now and although I am underwhelmed I'm not outraged or that surprised.

Mixed in amongst that is that it got stuck in a rut - so it kept on serving up indie landfill long after the new bunches of kids coming thru had stopped (as a general rule) listening to that. It probably got stuck in that rut because indie landfill is what the people doing the bookings knew (after all, they're not 'today's youth' either)

I'd really go if Jack White played Rockness think that'd be great!.

On a more serious note after my last post as much as i love The Darkness :) I'm really glad i decided a while back that i wasn't going to T the weeks leading up to this one got me thinking i should maybe go then i decided as i heard Rhianna and Mumford and Sons get announced that there would be no way. That being said after managing to get my Glastonbury ticket i really don't care if i can't go to any other festival but knowing that T isn't to my tastes this year makes me feel a bit better that i'm not actually going to miss out on anything at all. Unless someone really good got announced somewhere but to see one band that isn't headlining wouldn't be worth the prices.

To some up all the chat:

1) im strangely excited about this other announcement who knows why though

2) i thought that sunset strip area was actually an excellent idea but there was definitely flaws in the layout

3) as with every year the nme and tuts headliners are very different from the main heads so i would expect them this yr to b heavier/dancier than whats announced

Also Neil, would it be beyond a mainstream festival to have a day/stage that catered for older/better (:P) acts while having all the pop of the day the rest of the weekend/stages or do you think that would undermine their ultimate goal of attracting a younger clientele?

It was at least an attempt to provide something to do after the arena was closed

I ventured to the transmissions stage a couple of times and it was a mission to get to albeit that was mainly down to the dreadful conditions, i actually thought the stages were in decent places it was the placement of toilets and healthy t and stuff which i felt needed adjusted
