Except they haven't, oh and they have done those surveys for a few years now.

Definetely a case of peoples expectations that the 20th year would be any different to previous years.

Actually having a search online for any quotes Geoff Ellis has done since this year's TITP, the only thing relevant is

So even Geoff isn't bigging it up and all he is saying is that the fans are expecting it to be extra special which in fact it won't be apart from using the whole T20 thing as a marketing ploy to make people think it will be special.

Yeah i get that. But personally for me the headliners aren't the be all and end all of the festival. I think most years i've been i've only seen 1 main stage headliner. I'm pretty happy with the Killers. I like Mumford but not a fan of them as a headliner and Rihanna, well i'm not interested in seeing her but there is no question that she is huge at the minute.

I'm hoping for some good NME/Tuts headliners. Do people think Editors could headline NME?

Fair enough, Geoff or others haven't said things as black and white as "we will try and out do ourselves as it is T20" but they have definitely suggested that this will be a special year due to that fact.

marketing is all about suggesting things which are not true.

Consider yourself marketed at, and not being able to recognise it for it is.

You would be surprised. Just because you haven't heard about them doesn't mean they don't exist. The exclusive thing really is only worthy of boasting for the bigger acts but trust me, it exists at a way lower level than the killers.

I think some of you are being as coy as the marketing when discussing the 20th Anniversary of T in the Park. For the 10th anniversary of T, DF added a new stage, the X-Tent (X for 10, Roman numerals fans). Personally, I think the gig had expanded to the point were another stage was needed/justified and the number of years was of no relevance, but DF associated this new venue with celebrating a decade of the event. For King Tut's (the pub) 20th Anniversary, DF booked Manic Street Preachers, Paulo Nuttini and others to play a 300 capacity venue. It was advertised and reported as a 20th anniversary celebration. This year, DF change the marketing for T from using the year (T2011, T2012, etc) to T20, drawing attention to the number of years the festival has been running for. DF knew what they were doing, planting an idea which fans could for spin for themselves and be encouraged to buy tickets early. They are promoters and they promoted their product and they did it well, but it's disingenuous to argue that a 20th celebration was a delusion that they played no part in. I'm sure some people have learned a lesson from it. Others won't have, so we can have the same conversation next year again when the complaints begin anew.

With hindsight, the T20 advert almost seems ominous. It invites us to "Experience the 20th Year of T in the Park". Not celebrate or commemorate or even enjoy, just "experience". A very neutral word. Certainly no promises there.

Sorry, back to predictions for the undercard. I think they will book The XX to headline the XX-Tent.
