Some have, like Feeder, Dizzee Rascal, Calvin Harris. The majority haven't had prominent positions at T.

but the acts you name are acts that would be considered 'wanted' acts for T by many of the people that are saying T has gone pop since last year (as are the acts you've chosen not to name).

The fact that 'credible' acts played T4 on the Beach gets to show you what those acts are no matter how you might wrongly view them, and that gets to tell you what T is too.

The only people thinking T is not a pop fest are those people who will not admit to themselves that they like pop music, because they see 'pop' as a dirty word, and they think that to admit they like pop make them a lesser person (I'd say them kidding themselves is what causes that :P)

I think the demographic that Geoff is aiming for is....those with a bank card. Hes booked acts that are available and touring, in the case of The Killers those that have been voted for, and those that sell albums and therefore hopefully tickets. T, like any other festival has to evolve or die. Im not fussed for the headliners but very rarely watch a main stage headliner anyway. I love Radiohead but didnt expect T to book them anyway. Im sure come Feb there will be more acts Im interested in. I continue to attend T as its very close, and theres usually always someone to see. I never expect it to meet my exact musical tastes, so dont get personally offended when the festival isnt my dream line up. The fest is usually a mash up of most other mainstream festival line ups based on artist's touring schedules.

I left school this year and I can tell you that about a third of people listen to chart music.

Most guys I know are divided into either dance music or rock music. Some acts are universally popular, Arctic Monkeys spring to mind, and everyone loves 'Mr Brightside'.

In terms of Hip-Hop, Jaz-Z and Eminem are the only major ones that any large group of people like, maybe Kanye too.

I'd say about 25% of people are into acts from years ago, The Cure being a popular hipster choice, with The Beatles and Stones being popular too. Blur, Oasis and to a lesser extent Radiohead are liked by loads of people.

At house parties, people didn't really listen to chart music, it was dance music interspersed with the occasional guitar track (Take me out, I bet you look good on the dancefloor, Mr Brightside)

This is just from my year group at school, so everyone was 17-18-19, and I'm more than willing to admit it might be different elsewhere, but I just feel that people are just assuming people of my age are being kinda tarred with a pretty awful brush.

And yet, these same 17-21year olds don't seem to go to club nights that support a more diverse type of music. And any clubs that do have a split night, it will usually result in the pop/RnB room rammed and the indie room empty, with people asking for songs being played in the main room. Or ask for the songs you mention above, all of which are approx 7 years old.

I accept what you are saying, but it doesn't reflect out when people pay to go into clubs - or for that matter buy music. One look at I tunes top 100 says it all about the UK music scene.

The ITunes chart is skewed in that many people such as myself will not pay for new music that is available on physical formats with proper artwork, lyric sheets, and in some cases 24bit sound for audiophiles.

In many cases the physical CD is cheaper than buying from ITunes, so why not buy it and rip it to your music player?

ITunes player on the PC is horrific with no support for major formats such as FLAC and Ogg.

No matter how often Neil plays devil's advocate there are definitely a lot less non pop acts since 2011. Even in recent times Nine Inch Nails headlined NME. Scour everyhit.com to see what the charts was playing in any given year and then look at the T line up. The only time there has been a anything like an alignment has been this year.

Reckon The Prodigy are more than likely to be back in terms of other dance like acts Calvin Harris will be back without a shadow of a doubt being Scottish and T in the Park loving him. Which will make it a grand total of 4 years in a row for him i think. Emelie Sande will be there again too after all her hype this year and her chart success.

In better news reckon The Gaslight Anthem will be there they seem to be becoming more popular and rightly so they are one of the few goods bands i've heard recently. Frightened Rabbit must be back in the running for playing next year not played since 2010 when their last full album came out and next year their new full album will be out. Madness will no doubt be there aswell with that new album out this year and not played since 2010. Seen someone say about Public Enemy they are a pretty good shout too reckon they will be at Glastonbury aswell but i'm sure i read that Wu Tang Clan are writing a new album if i'm correct could see them at T rather than Public Enemy. Lastly i think pretty low down on one of the stages you might see Tame Impala unless they headline Transmissions stage.
