Coming From The North - Back Road

Hi all,

We're coming from Manc and I can remember a while ago there was a thread about taking the back road. Last year we didn't take it and spent 6 hours queuing off the m6!

Can anybody remember where I need to go!

Hi Kelly, I have always used the 'back road' since 99 and always got near on straight in but last year was a nightmare!! They changed the layout at the roundabout so you could only go one way and it caused grid lock and took us about 5 hours.

I don't think there is a quick way in anymore I'm afraid.

Oh no! Thank you - I noticed last year there were some changes - I thought I was going a bit barmy! I kept thinking "I thought we came that way before...." etc. Looks like a 4am get up and a snooze in the afternoon then!

We came from Cumbria last year and 4am proved too late (coupled with several stop). Didnt arrive until 4pm.

Setting off at 2am this time round, which should beat most of the traffic.

We're coming from Cheshire and opting for a 4am set-off. I went on the train last year but my friends drive last year, set off at 4am, got there at a decent time then kipped for a couple of hours in the afternoon! Think it's the same plan this year!

There used to be a good back route as I only live 30 mins away but 2010 it was busy every way and every direction. Left at 6.30am last year and had camp set up and sorted early with an afternoon nap!

first time at V and reading this thread looks like the usual queue sketch

anybody got a tip on the best back roads.. give us a head start for when poring over google maps later

Wow! I'm surprised you weren't asleep in the car! It was chaos last year - we didnt move for an hour. Everbody was on the road playing footie!

anyone know what time the car parks / campsites open? because its okay setting off at 3am to beat all the traffic, but no point doing that if your just sat waiting to get in anyway!

im thinking of getting a hotel in telford thursday night, then just driving the 20 mins to the site for whatever time is best to get in? any ideas?

Car park opens at 8 campsite at 9, but last year they let us in early anyway.

Telford is fairly close but I would still recommend leaving a hotel early, luckily the direction from Telford is one of the quietest as it doesn't lead from any other major routes.

Thanks for the info! i have booked thursday night in the Ramada Birmingham North in Cannock (looks reasonably close to V fest and was only £30 for the night!) so will just head over to the campsites early morning. Im thinking about 5 or 6am?

Yeah the Ramada Cannock is a very short distance to the site, I would say leaving around 6-7am any earlier and you'll just be sitting on the roadside waiting.

my mate drove us last time, set off about 6:30, don't have a clue which way we went all country roads though, but we were straight in and parking, no queues at all.

Not been for a couple of years but it used to be ok if you got yourself onto the A41 going south towards the site and the entrance was just after the A5 roundabout but it sounds like this has gone wrong now
